Winamp plays two songs then shuts down

After any two songs I play Winamp will just shut off and stop running, then ill have to restart it. Nothing pops up, it just asks if I want to send an error report. I just updated to version 5.531 and it started happening, before it I wasn't having any problems. What should I do?

I have a similar problem so I thought I'd post it here instead of opening a new thread - I've searched the FAQ and support forums but can't really find an answer...

So my problem is: I was still using an old version of Winamp, it was so cosy that I didn't want to upgrade...I'm one of those people you know. Yesterday it started doing pretty much what is described in the post above, it wouldn't play or play just a song then shut down. I thought ok, maybe it's time to finally upgrade to the latest version, and so I did. The installation seems to have been succesful (even though I had to reboot my computer and start it again because it was telling that it couldn't complete it while Winamp was still running, even after I had closed it... which is vaguely suspicious), but now I can't even open it, it just comes up with the error message (the one just saying there's an error, do you want to send a report) and doesn't even let me see the newly installed Winamp.
I understand nothing of technical stuff and I fear some of this might be related to some problem with my computer but I can't really tell what, the rest works pretty much as normal ...
HELP!

I essentially did the same thing as ibolya, only updating once Winamp started crashing after a few songs. The problem persists after the update.

Like Clambert said, please help.

me no understands
I only know that the version I just installed is 5.53 and my OS is WindowsXP, the rest looks pretty much like an unknown language to me. I'll try to follow those instructions about plugins and whatnot and I'll be back. I'll also try to uninstall and re-install, just in case...

Ok maybe trying to uninstall wasn't too clever (as in oops what do I do now), anyway there is indeed a problem because it didn't let me uninstall all of it...
I did manage to do the plugin and the log things so here they are.

(next post, made a mess with editing...)

Me, embarrassed? What for?

Where in my reply above did I say anything about uninstalling anything?

The HijackThis log in your zip file is a shortcut, and not the actual text file.

Open HijackThis
Click "Do a system scan and save a log file"

When Notepad opens with the log file at the end of the Scan,
go to: Notepad -> File menu -> Save As

Save it as HijackThis.txt (e.g. on your Desktop or in "My Documents")

The List of Plugins you provided was via the external standalone app, and not via the "One For Nunz" plugin.

With Winamp closed, download and install the plugin
http://www.nunzioweb.com/daz/files/O...unz_v3_1_1.exe

Then Open Winamp and go to:

Winamp -> Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins -> General Purpose.
Highlight "One For Nunz"
Click the "Configure selected plug-in" button
Checkmark "Open text file once generated" (if it isn't already)
Click the "Configure selected plug-in" button again
Click on "Generate listing of installed plugins & supported file extensions"

When Notepad opens with the text file, go to:
Notepad -> File Menu -> Save As
and save my_plugin_list.txt to the same place as where you saved hijackthis.txt

Put them both in a zip file and reattach.

It was my own initiative in fact...

Yes because as far as I understood (and still understand from what you wrote below) I can only use the "One for Nunz" plugin if I can open Winamp, but after I downloaded the new version I could never open it again, so I used the other thing I found in the instructions.

Ahh, right... I see...

Try a clean install of 5.531

If the problem persists, I'll need to see that HijackThis log...

Alright, here are the two logfiles requested. Maybe another set of data will help.

@Kulik

1. The plugin list is empty - or according to it, you don't have any installed whatsoever (including the required 1st-party Nullsoft ones, so I'm not surprised that it crashes).

2. You've got all of TrendMicro, AVG and Avast AntivVirus software installed, which can only do more harm than good. Choose one to keep, and uninstall the other two.

Other than that, I'm really not sure what's causing the problem.

Have you tried a clean install?

Yeah, the plugin list didn't open like I thought it was supposed to, so I hunted for it in the system folder. Guess it wasn't done scanning, or something. Anyway, I think it's right this time. Longer, at least.

And thanks for the tip about the AV software. I was under the impression that only having several active scanners would be problematic, not having them to scan on-demand repeatedly. Avast! is the only one that has an active full-time scan. Is it still a problem? This is a shared computer; another user is slightly paranoid about viruses and whatnot.

I figure I'll bump this since I can't find any topics with pertinent information. There's one without any replies, so maybe that guy will notice this one and join in.

you did a clean reinstall and you still have these third party plugins?

AdPlug/Winamp v1.7a [in_adlib.dll]
GEZamp v0.2+(beta) (x86) [in_gez.dll]
Highly Advanced v0.11 [in_gsf.dll]
NEZplug v0.9.4.8 + 2 (x86) [in_nez.dll]
NotSo Fatso - NSF/NSFe Player - v0.851 [in_NotSoFatso.dll]
Highly Experimental PSF1/PSF2 Player v2.09 [in_psf.dll]
Winamp Sid File Player (based on libsidplay 2.1.1) [in_sid2.dll]
Alpha-II SPC Player v3.2 (x86) [in_snes.dll]
64th Note v1.1 FINAL 2/10/06 [in_usf.dll]
VGM input plugin v0.35 beta Jul 6 2006 11:23:54 [in_vgm.dll]
Live Messenger Status Plugin v0.23 [gen_msn.dll]

chances are one of these is breaking winamp for you. hence why we suggest a clean reinstall to clean all these up.
