Winamp 5.53 Doesn't Even Open

I'm running Windows XP, and I just updated winamp to 5.53 because after updating my iPod software it stopped recognizing the device. So I thought maybe if I updated winamp too, it would fix the problem and hey it couldn't hurt, right? Wrong. Now winamp doesn't even open. It freezes immediately.

Any thoughts?

Try updating to 5.531, and remember to uninstall first. I just did, because v5.53 crashed on startup. The newer version works for me...

Hello, new here and I came here just now because until today I never had any problems with Winamp. Now I updated to the 5.531 but all of the sudden, I get a fatal error when I start Winamp up and it just won't do anything. I searched the net for solutions, someone claimed it as the Sonic burning option that caused problems, but no solution there. I installed older version and all of the sudden fatal error. After that I read some things on the forum and noticed some things wrong with the Bento skins so I installed but using another skin and no problems encountered! Though I have no more problem, I'd still like to know what went wrong or might have gone wrong?

please perform a clean reinstall (see the forum faq) sounds like you have bad and or very old third party plugins.

Beside some skins from Winamp.com itself or Leo's Lyrics which I got from Winamp.com as well I haven't got any plug-ins.
