Do you have a program like WindowWasher or TracksEraser installed?
If yes, then you'll need to configure it to exclude Winamp, otherwise it'll keep deleting winamp.ini (which is what causes the problem).

Other than that, I'm not rightly sure...

Please attach both your "HijackThis log" and "List Of Plugins"

I'd need to see the two logs I asked for above...

What's your Windows OS?

Are you using Winamp 5.531?

Go to either %ProgramFiles%\Winamp or %AppData%\Winamp
Open winamp.ini in Notepad

Edit these lines as follows and save:

[WinampReg]
NeedReg=0
IsFirstInst=0

Installer?

No... in Windows Explorer, or via: My Computer

winamp.ini will be in either the

"C:\Program Files\Winamp" folder

or in:

"C:\Documents and Settings\(YourUserName)\Application Data\Winamp"

or just type: %appdata%\winamp into the address bar and hit Enter

Open winamp.ini

(the default handler of .ini files is Notepad, so it should open in Notepad when double-clicked)

Near the top you'll probably see:

[WinampReg]
NeedReg=1
IsFirstInst=1

Change the 1's to 0's, so it now says:

[WinampReg]
NeedReg=0
IsFirstInst=0

Go to: "File" menu, click "Save"

Close Notepad

Open Winamp

Stick C:\Program Files\Winamp\paths.ini & install.ini and %AppData%\Winamp\winamp.ini (3 files in total) in a zip file and attach them to your next post please (attachment feature available via the 'Post a Reply' button).

I'm not rightly sure...

Try extracting this slightly modified version of your winamp.ini file to %AppData%\Winamp, overwriting the existing version.

Make sure all Winamp processes are closed first (via Task Manager -> Processes).

If the problem persists, again with Winamp closed, copy the same winamp.ini file to the "Program Files\Winamp" folder.

Note that you'll need to extract winamp.ini from the (attached) .zip file, i.e. don't just put the zip file in the folder without extracting it...

Then create a new "Backup" subfolder in the Winamp dir,
and cut & paste paths.ini from the Winamp folder to this new "Backup" subfolder.

This should now make Winamp read/write settings in the "Program Files\Winamp" folder instead of %AppData%\Winamp.

Try opening Winamp again.
Try by double-clicking the actual winamp.exe file in the Winamp folder.

If the problem persists, then I'm really not sure what's going on... yet...
