'Mark Any' MACSMANAGER.dll blocking Winamp
Hi! Since installing Service Pack 3 in XP my Winamp will not open ( same problem with WMP).
ThreatFire flags up the problem as MACSMANAGER.dll. Indeed I find that a rougue file has been installed in Programme Files called 'Mark Any'. This has been traced back to Installing my Samsung YPK3 Mp3 player. I understand this is some kind of DRM file tracking Problem is I cannot uninstall the Mark Any File and MACSMANAGER.dll and reinstalling Winamp only helps until I close the player and then it will not open again. How do I get things working again other than a restore point and going back to Service Pack 2? Thanks for your help

I had the same problem. Just go to start - run, type "msconfig", then from the window select "start up" and uncheck MAAGENT. This will disable MARKANY software from automatically starting with windows. Restart and delete the entire markany folder from windows.

'Mark Any' MACSMANAGER.dll blocking Winamp
Thanks SamsungFan for quick response.
Didn't quite work out the same result for me. The file contents deleted except the macsmanager.dll entry and when I try to delete that m,anually I get the error 'Cannot delete file etc etc make sure the file is not currently in use...so I presume it's hiding itself away somewhere else.

Strange... Check processes on task manager to see if maagent is still there or maybe another similar process connected with markany and disable it. There is one more thing i forgot: i used cc cleaner first, selected markany folder, (options - include - add folder - remove selected) and then i disabled maagent at startup. Sorry, i did this 2 months ago so i don't remember of every single step. Hope this will help :-)

Post your HijackThis log so we can see how/where the dll is loading from. If it's in the results, then maybe you'll be able to work out which entry to fix yourself... |

Hmm, I can't see what could be calling macsmanager.dll in your log,
though you are using an old version of HijackThis (our FAQ specifically states that you should use the latest version, currently v2.02, and even contains a direct download for it). Is there a Samsung SMS (or similar) entry in your Add/Remove Programs list? If so, uninstall it (as far as I can gather, that's what installs MarkAny). Other than that... What is the exact file path for macsmanager.dll? e.g. C:\Program Files\Mark Any\macsmanager.dll or: C:\Program Files\MarkAny\ContentSafer\macsmanager.dll Download KillBox (save it to your desktop, for now) http://www.killbox.net/ http://www.killbox.net/downloads/KillBox.exe Print out these instructions: Boot into Safe Mode (by tapping F8 on the first few black screens during bootup, then when the 'choose startup type' dialog appears, select 'Safe Mode') Once in Safe Mode... Open KillBox Click the 'Browse' folder button to the right of the "Full Path of File to Delete" field. Browse to: C:\Program Files\Mark Any\(ContentSafer)\macsmanager.dll (or whatever the exact path is, if different) Checkmark both "Standard File Kill" and "Unregister .dll before deleting" Click the red X button on the right to delete the file. Does that work? Is the file gone? Now manually delete the "Mark Any" folder. Reboot into Normal Mode Let us know the results... |

Hi DJ Egg !
Thanks for your quick response. I couldn't see anything untoward in the log either. However have followed your advice to the letter .......... GOOD NEWS the offending 'Mark Any File' and MACSMANAGER.dll have dissapeared. First attempt to fire up Winamp again was a success !! So thanks for a problem solved. Now I need to find another way to load up my YPK3 Samsung MP3 player and OBVIOUSLY I will not be re-installing the YPK3 installation disc again. |
