Windows Vista, maybe? If yes, then the solution is on page 1 of this very thread:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=289111#skins Other than that, you're going to need to be more specific. e.g. another possible cause of skins not working is if you installed Winamp Lite and are trying to use Modern skins (*.wal) with it (Winamp Lite does not include support for Modern skins). |

5.53, I have no idea. 5.531 is 13 MB for the all languages version and 8.6 for the full en-us version.

There may not be a public beta. There isn't always. It will be when they think it is stable enough for widespread use. Or if there is a change that affects a small group that may not be exposed in the private beta team.

it can already play S/VCD *.DAT files; they're just mpegs. one could rename it to .mpg to see, but as it is, associating .DAT with winamp would be silly due to the number of .DAT files that aren't playable. so rename it or drag the .dat to winamp's playlist yourself. As for .vob, it should be possible with a plugin as long as you have something to open the .vob packaging (i think?)

Winamp can already play VOB just by adding VOB to the Extension List in Prefs -> Plugins -> Input -> in_dshow config, assuming you've got a decent MPEG2 DirectShow Decoder installed, such as latest SSE version of FFDShow (the default Windows MPEG2Splitter will be used to demux them).
My current DirectShow Ext List: MPG;MPEG;M2V;AVI;OGM;OGV;VOB;DAT;RMVB;RM;RA;MKV;AC3;MOV;M4V;FLV;MP4 |

Then Winamp would need to buy a license for the decoders and encoders. The decoders could be avoided by using DirectShow or VfW for decoding but then people would still be asking "Why can't I convert this video?" to which the answer is "Install the decoder" What encoder would you like Winamp to use?

well that would explain why they havent done it yet its just right now winamp is converting video files that transfer to ipod as music files instead of the files they should be but i geuss best option is to convert the video file with the software apple recommends and then transfer with winamp until someone comes up with something better or when everyone in the world becomes rich or everything becomes free (like that will ever happen in my lifetime)

You say that WA 5.531 = Buggy? That's why there are NEW versions coming you know.. If you look at the link below, there are 13 bugs listed (+ some others), and some of them might be the ones that is making you crazy! 12 of 13(+ some others) are fixed, so look forward to WA 5.54! ![]() http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=156839 |

Judging by his/her first post, D_LeX has got a hell of a lot more problems going on with his/her computer, none that I doubt reverting to an old version of Winamp will fix. No-one can reproduce any of those problems whatsoever - so good luck there.
ps. I changed your links to old versions (5.52 isn't on the nullsoft server any more) |

Speaking of bugs, there is an issue with the way the DirectSound Output plugin. It refuses to detect the "primary driver" in Vista. It always has to be manually set when the driver gets updated.

Skins on Vista?
I'm know this has already been covered, but my winamp won't display the skins that I've downloaded. I've done the right-click-save-to-folder deal and the skins still don't display when I click my options on the winamp. If I do it the regular way (click the link, click yes on the "are you sure" window) then another winamp opens up (besides the one I've already got open) but in the classic skin. The skins that I've downloaded aren't even listed in the Skins folder. If there's an answer to this somewhere in this forum, I'd love to have the link. (I just didn't feel like reading thru them all...) Thanks.

What so diffucult?
1) Download the skin 2) Manually copy it in your: C:\Program Files\Winamp\skins If you still dont see the skins in your menu then you was being Timmy again. You probably installed Winamp in a new directory. Check your Winamp shortcut to see where you installed it. If you still dont see it, then you might not have Modern Skin Support enabled when you installed Winamp. If you still dont see anything then you dont have a Winamp skin there. Winamp skins comes in two flavours: *.wsz & *.wal ClassicPro© v2.01 : This plugin allows you to use cPro skins in Winamp. ClassicPro skins are all SUI skins and loads very quickly. ClassicPro skins is even easier to skin than Winamp Classic skins. A new layout have been added since version 2. |

Ok. And you're telling me something I already know. (not to be snippy but I don't have THAT many "Timmy" moments, thanks.) As stated before, I have manually saved the skins to the appropriate folder and I always install winamp in the same directory...not a problem there. But they're still not showing up. Must be my computer's own little issue. So I'll just stick to the modern skin it was installed with (which must mean I have that option enabled...wierd). Thanks for all your um...help.

Yes thats very weird. Only thing that I can think of for you to try is to delete this folder:
%appdata%/winamp I say that because maybe your skins directory is somewhere else(that might be why your seeing only the old winamp skin). You can also check to see where the skins directory is: Preferences >> Skins >> Set Skins Directory Hope I'm more help this time ![]()

Jump to file window and alt+F4
Hi, i noticed one "bug". Maybe it might sound like small bug to you but in my winamp using it has made me major problems.
So problem name is alt+F4 using when i want to close "jump to file" window (hotkey: j). In older versions this command did NOT close whole winamp, just this "jump to file" window. Is it possible to fix this bug? or is it made on purpose?

don't think it's been looked at and there was a thread recently where setting winamp to use XP compatability seemed to sort out the issue (for some).

Well, first off, thanks for all the suggestions.
![]() I created folders for the skins I wanted to download. And they did successfully download. And they do show up when I right click on my winamp. But when I click on them to change the skin, it either flips from classic to modern skin, but it's got a check-mark beside the name like that's what it is...but it's not. Also, when I download the skins, the window pops up that gives me the options of which folder to save them to, but the funny thing is that, when the window pops up to choose the folder, I can see the skins that I've previously downloaded but were unable to see when I'd just go to the folder (program files, winamp, skins...). They were invisible or something. (dunno) Also, I double checked to see if I had it directed correctly...to the right destination, just to be sure, and I do. Like I said tho, I suppose I'll just deal with what I've got. It must be some kind of glitch with my laptop. And I would reinstall but I've done that already. I'll just deal.
