winamp rado keeps playing despite turning it off

Winamp radio continues to play songs despite the fact that I've shut it off. Prior to turning it off, it kept playing the same songs over and over no matter how many changes I made to the radio stations. It also played a variety of about 3 songs at the same time, over each other, the same 2 & 3 songs at once. I am going batty! The task bar indicates a variety of artists are playing but these artists are not the ones that keep continually playing. I've been using Winamp for about 6 months. The only way I can stop the incessant music is by turning the volume down on my speaker.

Forgive my ignorance but what is Winamp remote? I'm inclined to think not...remote makes me think that I am listening to it from a remote place?? I am listening direct from my PC.
I just rechecked it. Even tho in the upper R corner it shows station 1.FM Blues is playing the song "That Ain't Love" by Robert Cray, the song that is actually being played is some song about "heaven" which is the same song that was playing 8 hours ago when I first turned wimamp on this morning. It's driving me crazy, & since even turning wimamp off won't stop it from playing, I cannot even use another means to listen to music. For ex., if I play Pandora's Box, or a CD or Wolfgang's vault, or youtube, it gets drowned out by this samo samo song(s) from Wimamp. Help!

Winamp Remote lets you stream your media library over the internet.

Anyways, I have never heard of this issue occurring with SHOUTcast radio. Please provide Winamp & system specs.

Hi,

Supply the specs that JonnyMac indicated for you to do above. But in the meantime, close Winamp. Then open your Tack Manager. Go to the Processes tab there. Look for any and all instances of winamp.exe that may STILL be running as errant processes in the background. Highlight each one and click the "End Process" button.

I feel that this may be what's happening, especially in light of the fact that you said that Winamp is "supposedly" closed but is also still broadcasting.

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

I don't know what "system specs" are or how to locate them. I noted when I checked my program that it says "winamp 5.53" & 549 bytes. I have no idea if that is helpful; if not, perhaps you could b more specific in what you need. Thx much.

DOH!!!

I said Tack Manager earlier. I meant to say Task Manager.

Anyway, did you try what I suggested in my previous post above? You never said if you tried that at all when you posted back...

If you were unsure of other things, then perhaps you are unsure of how to access/open your Task Manager. For that, all you have to do is either...
  1. Right-click anywhere on your task bar (bottom of screen) and then select Task Manager from the right-click menu options, OR...
  2. Just press the keyboard combo of Ctrl+Alt+Delete one time to bring it up.
Then (as I said earlier) go to the Processes tab there. Look for any and all instances of winamp.exe that may STILL be running as errant processes in the background. Highlight each one and click the "End Process" button.

Here's a screenshot...

Have you even tried that? Because I feel based on what you've already said, that it may be the problem, or at the very least, part of the problem. But then again, it could also be some buggy plugin causing it (and also perhaps causing multiple errant Winamp processes, as I already indicated).

So, try what I said, but of course also provide the requested specs, and most importantly, the List of Plugins asked for in that same specs thread.

I just went to the task bar and found (2) winamps listed in the task mgr with one still running. I selected "end process." Then I checked winamp radio again, and the same stupid song was still playing!
As for the LIST OF PLUGINS and the requested SPECS where/how do I get that info?

I said to CLOSE Winamp first, then open Task Manager and kill all running processes. Then reopen Winamp again and see if the problem persists. Your complaint is that music still plays after you've closed Winamp...

That is why I suspected that although the Winamp "application" was closing, one or more Winamp "processes" were still running.

Anyway, that aside, on to this...

As Sawg indicated in his post above, you have to click on supplied links that we post...

That is a link, follow it and then follow the instructions on that page.
Anything you see that is either 1) a different color than regular text or 2) is underlined or bolded, are all LINKS. You must click them, and then follow the directions there, by reading and ALSO clicking links for further instructions...

Both above that are underlined are links that need to be clicked on. Then follow the instructions once you arrive there, which includes of course, clicking on more links for instructions.

I went to the link thay you referred to and it is total Greek to me. I have no understanding of the language whatsoever. A friend downloaded winamp for me and I have absolutely no way of knowing how to understand LIST OF PLUGINS, SPECS and all other foreign words at this site. Is there a way that I can just uninstall Winamp from my PC?
I am INCAPABLE OF FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS...I don't even know if I can uninstall it, but I think I can at least try to do that.

Ah, well

I really can't be any plainer in my instructions to you. Not at all. It's impossible.

So... you want to uninstall Winamp now?

These are the instructions...

Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure <-- click-n-read

And again, a link to be clicked on above, and of course, more to read/follow.

Good luck and Good night! I'm going to bed!

Plz understand your instructions are just fine & I'm most grateful for the trouble you've taken to try to help me. It's just that once I get to the "Specs" and "Plug In" info, it's way beyond my area of computer expetise. I do not understand the instructions...might as well be Greek. This has nothing to do with you and I'm most grateful with your attempts to help me.
I'm even concerned with uninstalling winamp, because re: "quick uninstall," it warns I may "lose" a number of things. Again, I have no clue what these things are, so I don't know if it's ok to use "quick uninstall/reinstall." The only thing I've ever used Winamp for is to listen to the radio. Any burning of CDs I've done thru Roxio.
I've never uninstalled any program from my PC.
