Winamp steals MCE2005 control

Hi,

I just installed the lastest 5.531 and am very happy with the functionality overall.

The one problem which at the moment is killing things for me is that Winamp is stealing my play/stop/next and back controls in XPMCE. If I go to press play on a video file (avi) the avi starts to play but so does Winamp even though it is sat in the icon bar minimised, XPMCE definately has focus.

My remote is a SRC2010 programmable that I have copied all the standard MS MCE remote commands into. I use this remote with IRTrans, and IRkeyboard to map custom keys to IR signals and have a separate view on my remote with music playback commands (Alt ctrl numkeys).

I have tried numerous settings changes under global hotkeys and even uninstalling global hotkeys plugin and disabling IRKeyboard but Winamp still persists in responding to the MCE remotes commands, this occurs regardless of whether MCE is not open or not.

I guess I would be happy with this if it didnt keep responding when MCE is active fullscreen!

Apart from uninstalling Winamp I am out of idea's, I am guessing this might be something to do with the fact that winamp uses the wm_appcommands for windows??

Can someone please put me out of my misery?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

If it still happens even after unchecking both 'enable' options in Global Hotkeys options, and even after removing gen_hotkeys.dll, then the only other thing I can think of is that maybe Winamp is set as the default handler associated with AVI/MPG/WMV, and Windows or your remote always opens the default player.

Alas, I'm not familiar with MCE (I'm not even sure what you mean by XPMCE - is that the built in Windows Media Player in Windows MCE or something?), but maybe check the relevant configs and either associate the relevant video format/extension with WMP instead of Winamp, or configure the remote to open XPMCE instead (if that's even possible)...

Hi DJ Egg,

When I say XPMCE I mean MCE2005 rollup update 2 as opposed to Vista media centre.

I will try renaming gen_hotkeys.dll and see if that works thanks.

Hi DJ Egg,

After spending nearly a whole day on this problem, I found the issue. It appears that IRTrans comes with a profile in its apps.cfg for Winamp by default, seeing as I had never used winamp on my HTPC before, this had never been an issue in the past. Essentially what this allows owners of Media centre remotes that use IRTrans to do is control winamp well before global hotkeys ever came along with the same basic non-learning remote that they get from microsoft when they buy Mediacentre. Nice I guess but in my instance, it caused me a world of pain.

I deleted the Winamp entry out of App.cfg in the IRtrans folder structure, reloaded the IRtrans data base, renabled global hotkeys in winamp and setup some custom keymaps with global hotkeys and IRkeyboard and alls now good.

Thanks for the quick reply by the way....

My next part to work out, how to do next album and next artist using global hotkeys.....I had this with my old mp3 player and will miss it.

Cheers,

Nick
