i got an 8GB iPod nano how do i do transfers

yeah i got a sweet new 8GB iPod nano it says in the manual i can transfer downloaded items from web to hardrive then move it to the ipod or that i could do the same way with vids or photos but it says in my manual i can do the same with a mp3 cd i have at home and transfer it on i was wondering if anyone knew how to help me learn how to do this because i think im technologically retarded with portable electronics and and new era technology like my 8GB iPod nano so if anyone knows how to help my dumb self then id really be very appreciative
