ntdll errors are often caused by broken library databases. Move main.dat and main.idx out the settings folder in either %appdata%\Winamp\Plugins\ml (default) or Winamp\Plugins\ml (old style) and then start Winamp. Do you still experience the crash?

If yes, please attach BOTH your "List of Plugins" and HijackThis logs

hi there
thanks for your reply.
sorry but i cudnt find the files "main.dat and main.idx" even though i tried searching them out.
the only extra plug in added was mini lyrics which has been working fine for quite some time. in the plug ins folder its showing only the following folders :
avs
dsp_sps
freeform
gracenote
milkdrop2

actually this problem started only after i made a "winamp.m3u" file to solve the problem of gtalk crashing when showing the song listing. it worked for a day or so..and then winamp started crashing as soon as i launch it.

anyways im pasting the hijack this log file below

thanks again

me.

If you are missing the ml folder then it is quite likely that you didn't install the library. This is why we ask for things to be posted. If you didn't install it then I am at a loss for the cause of the problem

I can't see anything wrong wrong in the HJT log but I am no expert.

P.S. Thanks to whoever silently edits my posts.

hi there.
well i recently upgraded winamp and it was working fine. but then again the same error as posted below showed up:

AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.3.1938 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000106c3

as you had stated before the ML folder is not there and you told me that its coz i haven't installed the library. how do i do that? because i did a normal full instillation and there was no option or anything to install the library.

can you please help me with the same so that my problem can be fixed.

thank you

Are you sure that you are looking for the ml folder in the correct place?

Note: %appdata%\Winamp\Plugins\ml for latest version of winamp, where %appdata% is wherever your application data folder is.

For example, on my computer it is C:\Documents and Settings\Greg & Katie\Application Data\Winamp\Plugins\ml

I had the same issue and J_Darnley's initial quick-fix suggestion worked for me! Simply move main.dat and main.idx out of that folder.

However, I don't know why these files are a problem or why it is OK to just move (delete) them.

So, if you happen to read this J_Darnley (or other technical wiz), please get back to me on the above uncertainty.

Much thanks

The good thing is that you can just enter %appdata% into the address bar of Windows Explorer and you will be taken straight there. I don't often suggest entering %appdata%\Winamp because if you aren't using multi-user settings then it doesn't exist so Windows Explorer shows an error and many people ignore what it says in error messages.

You can move those files because they just store what's in your library. main.dat is roughly the Winamp equivalent of books in a real library. As for why it becomes corrupt I have no idea. Not being saved properly when Winamp exits, being corrupted by another process? Who knows?
