unicode in the file name.....

songs with unicode i nthe file name dont work. for example, I have a song called "片膝の汚れ.mp3" , works fine in foobar but on winamp it shows up as "?????" and doesnt play, If i update the tags it resets them to nothing. My kanji/unicode stuff work fine unless it's in the filename itself..which is a huge problem since I'd have to rename A LOT of stuff and remake my playlists...and these arn't tiny playlists. How do I fix this to make winamp play files with unicode in the path?

the unicode symbol "♥" is also causing issues, but thats only in like 5 songs so not so much an issue. probably fixed the same way

Assuming you have the latest version of Winamp 5.531) Unicode filenames are fully supported. Unless you have some dodgy third-party plugin messing things up.

Please include full system specs
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs
(This includes especially the my_plugin_list)

Click the link above. There are instructions on how to download the "One for Nunz" plugin that generates the plugin report we need (As it includes other Winamp information, as well as version numbers)

Try removing the following third-party plugins and see if the issue persists:
Porzillosoft Video Plugin [in_videoobject.dll]
Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin v2, 0, 47, 0 (ML Mode) [ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll]
KMG DSP Volume Dynamics v2.0 [dsp_Dynamics.dll]

(Though I did miss that DSP plugin)

You could've just attached it to your post
(attachment feature available via the 'post a reply' button)

Remove the following 3rd-party plugins and let us know if the problem still occurs:

Porzillosoft Video Plugin [in_videoobject.dll]
KMG DSP Volume Dynamics v2.0 [dsp_Dynamics.dll]
Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin v2, 0, 47, 0 (ML Mode) [ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll]

(with Winamp closed, create a new Winamp\Plugins\Backup folder and cut+paste those DLL files into it)

My guess is that it's just in_videoobject.dll to blame, but we shall see...

[EDIT]

Doh! Too late!

"14. Hamatte Sabotte Oh My God! - Hirano Aya, Katou Emiri, Fukuhara Kaori, Endou Aya.mp3"

also doesn't work, not sure why since it's just "!" and commas, common symbols in english...

Hmm... strange.

What method are you using to play these files in Winamp?
(there's about 10 different ways)

eg. Are you drag+dropping them from Explorer into Winamp's Playlist Editor?
Or are you right-clicking them in Explorer and selecting Play/Enqueue in Winamp?
Or are you using Winamp's Add/Open Folder or file(s) dialog?
Or are you adding them from Winamp's Media -> Library -> Local Media views?
Or are you saving them to a playlist file then opening the saved playlist?
Or some other method?

Which ever method you're using, please include the exact step-by-step method.

Please also confirm that your Winamp settings are setup according to the FAQ:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=267691

I've got a sneaky feeling that you're saving them to and then opening an .m3u playlist when you should be saving them to .m3u8 instead...

I was adding them to a non-saved playlist (enqueue and add file) then saved it as a .m3u8 and they still didnt work , but if I double click on them in windows or right click and "play in winamp" they work

okay, i thought i fixed by re-adding the files to a a newly saved .m3u8 playlist, but after a few days they stopped working in the playlist again...I dont want to have to re-add the songs every few days...

when i look at file info instead of showing the real path it shows "lovegu~1.mp3" or sometihng similiar

like i said, If i re-add teh song it works fine for a few days but then it goes back to doing this...

edit: also, how do i view urls submitted by users?

edit 2: this is weird.....when i sort by path and filename, it moves them all to the bottom since they're messed up...and like 3 of them still PLAY...while the others just stay at 0:00 for a few seconds before skipping.Very confused as to why SOME are still playing. Though it's annoying that they're at the bottom out of order.

okay i figured out that it wont play my unicode/kanji FLAC files. But it plays other FLACs, and other unicode/kanjis fine. but it's also organizing the kanji/unicode filename files on the end of the list, wasnt doing this before.

so questions..

A.why won't it play the unicode flacs anymore even tho it was until yesterday?

B. why is it organizing my unicode/kanji filenamed files on the end of my list when it wasnt doing so until yesterday?

how do i fix these issues.

The Kokia song doesn't wanna work at all in my playlist , the Lsat alliance song works but organizes on the bottom for some reason. They work fine alone or in newly made .m3u8 playists but after a few more days then don't again. it's as if after awhile my .m3u8 playlists forget they're m3u8's and work the same as .m3u for flacs and put non-flac unicode files on the end of the playlist

http://www.sendspace.com/file/r3gldi

it's like they are forgetting the paths or something , im not sure but when i re-add them they work for "awhile" on the old playlist.

gonna re-stress that this is ONLY happening on winamp so the chances of it being the files are very very low, works fine on itunes and foobar , forever..but itunes fails and foobar's randomplay feature isn't very random

Both those files work fin the a saved M3U8 playlist and saved Media Library playlist. Winamp has no problems with those file names.

If something is changing the playlist file, is sure isn't Winamp at this point.

I seem to be experiencing a similar problem, and it happens specifically when I export the playlist as an M3U file.

The path on my computer is

F:\music\Ayhan SicimoÄŸlu\Friends & Family\Ayhan Sicimoglu - Istanbul pas Constantinople - Friends&Family - 02.mp3

(should have an accent over the "g" in the second word of the second directory in the path)

and the the file is tagged with artist "Ayhan SicimoÄŸlu" (same accented character).

When I shutdown and restart Winamp while this file is in the playlist, there's no problem. However, if I use the "Save playlist" dialog, the entry for that file has an unaccented "g" substituted for the accented character in both the file path and the description. So, when I load the saved playlist, that file is not found.

I tried removing the audioscrobbler/last.fm plug-in and was able to reproduce the behavior. I think that's the only third-party plugin I'm using.

I'm using the latest version of Winamp (5.54), but I've been having this problem since at least 5.51.

M3U doesn't support International / Unicode characters. Use the M3U8 playlist format.

Ah-ha. OK, so the M3U only supports the Latin-1 charset, which explains why it does work with lots of other non-English songs in my collection but not this one. And, indeed, if you select the M3U8 format (never noticed that -- thanks!) *and* use an .m3u8 extension on the file, it does work. However, if you select the option for M3U8 but use an extension of .m3u on the filename, it does not work. So, there's still something hinky there...

It would also be good practice if Winamp warned the user when attempting to export to a format that doesn't support the character sets in use.

But it ALWAYS works on other players, not feeling so well right now so will upload hijackthisthing after its done installing and when i feel better

so apparently it does this on foobar too, but i never noticed cuz it only happens when i open a new playlist and on foobar i always leave my main playlist open and add stuff to it, since you can only have 1 playlist open at a time in winamp i noticed it. Not sure wth is wrong with my stuff, but i'd like to know so if anyone can look at those dxdiag and hijackthis and hopefully figure out whats wrong, id be very greatful..cuz now i have to re-name a couple hundred songs
