running with a live input feed

i did look around in the faq and troubleshooting but couldn't find a reference for what i need.
i want to run live audio into winamp to trigger the visuals and then run those visuals to my plasma screen tv. can you steer me to the section that can answer this question for me? has anyone else accomplished this?
