how to differentitate mp3, ogg, wma in windows explorer (avoid the winamp media file)

Hi,

Winamp sorts all the extensions it can recognize into one single category for Windows Explorer: "Winamp Media File"

A bit annoying; as I can recognize at first glance the various extensions (mp3, ogg, wma...)

In order to avoid this automatic sort under one single category, is there another way than

- ALT3 in winamp, and read the extension in the path
- File Option, untick the box "mask all known extensions"
- File Option, file type, advanced, modification of the type of file, which modifies everything without distinction.

Thanks in advance!
(ps: my Windows is in French, so I am not sure about if "file option", "modification of the type of file" are the correct translation)

Winamp 5.54 will show different file extensions in the explorer, so i have no clue what you are talking about.

Try re-registering the file extensions.

Preferences --> File types --> Associated file types --> uncheck all.

Restart Winamp and check your extensions again.

E.g. Winamp will show "MPEG Layer 3 audio file" for MP3s instead of "Winamp media file"

The icons are still the same like in the past, just that it shows different descriptions for different files is new.

From the 5.53 changelog:

* Improved: Different shell descriptions for different associated filetypes
