Winamp does not start after upgrade

I upgraded from Winamp 5.2 to 5.54. After installing, I get a "Winamp Setup" window. I click through it and get a progress window "Starting Winamp", which takes some time pausing around at four bars, then vanishes. Winamp does not start, no process "Winamp.exe" in the task manager. Clicking on "Wimamp.exe" again just opens the "Winamp Setup" again (with my settings already correct) and the whole things starts all over again.

i'd say you have an old incompatible third party plugin from the old winamp. remove or upgrade the old plugins and it'll work fine.

Do you have Shoutcast DSP?

Then Reinstall this

Shoutcast DSP uses an older AAC+ Encoder than Winamp does

But Shoutcast does crash with the newer one

Didn't have that plugin. Had to delete my WHOLE plugin folder and reinstall for Winamp to work again. Shows really bad developing style to break compatibility in a minor version increment and force people to go but hunting who only wanted to get the security fixes.
