Won't play from a shared folder

I have a server "\\House-server" with a shared folder "music" with a bunch of albums, each in their own subfolder.

If I right-click on the "\\House-server\music" folder and choose "Play in Winamp", Winamp opens with "1. music" in the playlist and it doesn't play any of the mp3s. But if I go one of the album subfolders in the music folder, and right-click to play the subfolder, Winamp opens and plays the MP3s in the subfolder. I can even move my entire music collection to a new folder (like "\\House-server\music\New Folder", and Winamp will happily play everything in that folder, and all subfolders of that folder.

What's going on?? Why won't Winamp play MP3s directly from the the root of a shared folder, when it will play MP3s in a subfolder of that shared folder?

I guess no one has a clue about what to do about this? Is it a bug?
