Unusual Winamp load conditions
I have what I believe to be an unusual problem. I cannot run Winamp through main EXE or shortcut, but am able to run it by double clicking an associated file. I cannot run WMP either but unlike Winamp double clicking it's associated files does nothing. (Not that I care, It's WMP, I mention it as the problem may be related).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Winamp to no avail. I have also tried a system restore to a time I recall being able to run the Winamp executable, also to no avail. I have also recently run a Full Norton virus scan, and two anti-spyware scans. So My system should be about as clean as it's ever been. Does anyone know why this odd, odd problem has occurred, and how to fix it? System: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 061 System Model: RC625AA-ABG m7595a BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 3070MB RAM I have also attached a DXdiag and plugin list in a zip. you cant run the program from programfiles on your hard drive if this is correct sounds like either a program installed is blocking it from running or windows itself could be blocking it (data execution protection) if its just the links that arent working make sure they are going to the correct location on the hard drive now if its neither of these i will look into what maybe causing the problem

It's really odd. If I try to run a shortcutto it, nothing. If I try to run the actual .exe in C:\Program Files\Winamp nothing happens, but if I double click on an mp3 it will load up in winamp and play. It's so odd.
Same thing with WMP, but I don't really care about WMP. |

I added an exception to the Data Execution Prevention list, the problem persists.

Update:
I can run it through a command line prompt, but not by clicking on the icon, this serves only to make me more puzzled. |

Have you tried a reinstall of Winamp? This may reset some of the file associations, etc.
Do you have any other programs that don't start? or just Audio-Visual ones? I would download and install "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack". Run the installer, choose "Loads Of Stuff" from the options menu. This will then install lots of up to date codecs. more importantly - it will repair broken codecs in the process. http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm (Why can't I get URLs to work on this forum?) www . codecguide . com / download_mega . htm (Take the spaces out to make that URL work) |

may want to do a live onecare virus scan
the scan is free off of the main site this sounds more like a virus or spyware blocking the program from running correctly please get back to us if it does or doesn't find anything thanks rob (c)rob 2013 (picture & SN) (please note) As users we can't give others help unless we get full details of the problem that you are having |
