More info
Upon reading requirements for posting tech questions I see I need to show my_plugin_list.txt file. I have it but can't seem to attach it. I've been told not to paste it in here.

One problem down....
This procedure worked for getting the sound working.
Winamp -> Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Plugins -> Output -> DirectSound -> config: Device tab: -Make sure your sound card is selected as Device (c/o drop-down menu) -Checkmark "enable hardware acceleration" Buffering tab: -Checkmark "enable cpu usage control" Now I have another problem. I can hear stereo in Windows Media but not in winamp. I can hear left but not right even when I turn the balance all the way over to the right speaker. I went in to the laptop sound system and it seems to be ok. I can't find how to configure winamp balance. I think it's just being a fussy baby

For the Winamp Mordern and Bento Default skins, balance is in the EQ. It will vary in other modern skins. All classic skins the balance is in the main/player window.
