touched & listed but can't listen
So, my server says:
"<10/09/08@13:06:44> [yp_tch] yp.shoutcast.com touched!" And my station is listed in Shoutcast's directory & the song titles are updating properly. But when I try to download the stream (either here on the computer running the server or one in another room), I get an error that the ip isn't available. Also, when I browse to the ip:8000 directly I get an error message that the server is taking too long to respond. I've recently updated my modem, & had to change many settings. It seems like I must've missed a setting somewhere, but when I looked through the help documentation (which I did, for about 45 mintues) I couldn't find this situation listed. I've tried reinstalling the server, and reinstalling the shoutcast plugin to winamp, in that order. Any ideas, or places where I can read about it? If it helps, the ip in question is http://65.96.179.213:8000 Thanks very much, Angela Sawyer www.weirdorecords.com |

The stream works fine.
If your shoutcast server is on your local machine try with http://127.0.0.1:8000 So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish. ![]()

Thought it was okay, but tried again from the computer in the other room and still had problems. More forthcoming.

Nope, still having a problem. If I go to 127.0.0.1:8000 I can listen fine, but if I use the 'tune in' button on the shoutcast page, I can't listen, and neither can anyone else.

working fine here,
http://65.96.179.213:8000/ if you have a router it may not support local lopback so you will not be able to hear via your external ip. Current Stream Information Server Status: Server is currently up and public. Stream Status: Stream is up at 96 kbps with 1 of 25 listeners (1 unique) Listener Peak: 3 Average Listen Time: 1h 31m 16s Stream Title: Weirdo Records Radio Content Type: audio/mpeg Stream Genre: weirdo, experimental Stream URL: http://weirdorecords.com/cpCommerce/...id_document=27 Stream AIM: N/A Stream IRC: #shoutcast Current Song: Vertical Slit - August 1976 i notice you have 96k set on the bitrate of the encoder. Its always worth remembering that the rule of thumb is upstream / bitrate = max users you can get your upstream here http://www.speedtest.net if you need to look into stream hosting you can find a list of hosts here http://www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts |

Hmm, okay, I'll look into the local loopback end of things. Thanks for verifying for me.

Well according to speedtest anyhow, my upload kbps is 1430, so 96 should be okay. Still having some sort of a problem. I'm able to download other Shoutcast stations on the computer in the other room. Called the isp, they have no idea what router local loopback might be. They helpfully tried turning off the firewall, but that didn't make a difference. I'll keep looking around.

Finally solved this problem. There are 3 urls to consider. 127.0.0.1:8000 will work on the local machine which is also the station server. The public ip (in my case 65.96.179.213:8000) will work on any machine that's outside the network (like on Nick@ss's computer, or my cell phone). However, on another machine connected to the same network (like the one in the living room where I was trying to download the station) 127.0. won't work and neither will 65.96. There I can only use the private, internal ip address (in my case 10.1.10.xx).
I suppose it's not a problem that crops up often, as most people don't try to broadcast their own stations from one room to another, but now my record store (which I run out of my apartment) can broadcast my radio station. Thanks again for all your help & patience. Thanks very much, Angela Sawyer www.weirdorecords.com |
