Is it possible to uninstall RealPlayer & have Winamp become the default player? I've tried uninstalling RealPlayer only to get tons of error messages when trying to listen to Shoutcast. I've gotten advice & tried virtually everything recommended on the postings regarding this subject. By looking at the number of postings on this subject, I see I'm not the only one with this problem. I have resorted to re-installing the latest version of RealPlayer on my system--uggh! If Nullsoft created both Shoutcast & Winamp, why would they not create an easy way for the two to be compatible??

RealPlayer establishes file associations that are controlled under Windows. To change these...
In Windows Explorer open Folder Options (found under Tools or View, depending on your Windows version). Click on File Types and scroll to find file types mp3, pls, m3u, cd audio, and then Edit. Change the association path to Winamp (usually C:\ProgramFiles\Winamp\Winamp.exe). OK everything. |

Chirodude, now don't go making this seem like WinAmp is half at fault. It's because of RealPlayer being so pushy that that problem occurs.
By the way, when you uninstalled RP, did you make sure it took its starcenter thing to hell along with it? |

Thanks, John M, but I've done that previously, & they're all checked.
Qaxar, I changed file associations & when I went to play Shoutcast, an error message read: The specified document is missing: file:C:\windows\temporary. Any guesses? Thanks for the help. |

chirodude- I'm not sure, but it sounds like the file association for sreaming media is pointing to the wrong path. I think the Winamp streaming media file types are STM and S3M. You might try going back to the Windows Folder Options and making sure that these two types also associate with winamp.exe.
