Administrator or not for Installation ?

Hi - I've got a brand new laptop with Vista Ultimate . On my previous machine I installed WinAmp as administrator but then ran as a non-admin user. This became boring as WinAmp was always asking to update itself and as a non-admin user I couldn't do that. So this time around I'm inclined to install as a non-admin user but will that work OK ? I know I could try but I hate having installs go bang in the middle. Thanks for any advice/experience.
