H.264 + 64 bit Vista Problem

I recently bought a new laptop. It is running 64 bit Vista

I never had any problems watching streamed videos on my old 32bit Vista.

I have all of the right plugins installed:

and I installed ffdshow64 and h.264 is set to libavcodec:

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Winamp 5.5+ many times and have tried older versions as well.

I have also tried installing WinAmp without Sonic since I read that it may prove problematic with 64 bit Vista.

WinAmp is also not being blocked by a Firewall and I've set the right exceptions.

What happens is that when I roughly follow this guide (since I'm running 64 bit and this guide - http://www.wrestling-tv.net/h264.php - was designed with 32 bit computing in mind), and try to play one of the test videos, I get stuck at 99% bufferring before it quits.

Here is another thread on another site that outlines my issues so far in incremental detail: http://www.mikeadamle.net/forumz/showthread.php?t=14229

I have since, as stated and illustrated above begun using ffdshow64 since that thread was created to no avail.

Please help.

Anyone?

Nothing I've tried has worked and I'm not confident enough to go through the registry on my own.

Please help.

Winamp cannot use a 64-bit build of ffdshow. This isn't likely to be the source of your problems because it shouldn't crash. Or do you not mean crash when you say quit?

Also, one cannot read your thread without registering.

I am referring to the bufferring rate. It stops at 99% and then stops before eventually stopping the playback.

As for 64 bit ffdshow, it did the same as the 32 bit version I also tried, which I'll illustrate in the quoted snippets from the previously referenced external forum:

H264 value is at libavcodec

and this thing still wont work

I'm running 64bit vista.

I recently changed computers and my new one is running 64bit vista. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong given the instructions

Here are my screenshots:

Is it a 64 bit issue?

Someone else replied

I don't have Vista, but I'm not sure why it would cause an issue.

The only thing I can think of, and this is a long shot, is that because you're a 64 bit version of Vista, you have some other codec that is calling a conflict. In other words, it's installed properly BUT the conflict is making it not work. In other word it's trying to load both codecs at the same time, or some ****. Again, this is a long shot.
So, as you can see from those screencaps, this did nnot work in 32 bit ffdshow either. Here is what winamp looks like when I try and load a feed:

Please help

Also, here's the guidelines that I was following (as per the external site - I have also reinstalled ffdshow 32 bit to no difference)

Upgrading WinAmp to support H.264

Step #1, Install WinAmp

Step #2, Copy nsvdec_x264.dll to Plugins directory.
Download nsvdec_x264.dll,
and copy it to your WinAmp plugins directory.
C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins
-or-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Plugins

Step #3, Download and Install ffdshow
Download ffdshow and install it.
You can just speed through Next, Next, Next.. (or custom)

Step #4, Configure ffdshow
Load VFW Codec configuration:
Start -> Programs -> ffdshow -> VFW configuration

On the top menubar there are two tab, [Encoder] and [Decoder]. Click [Decoder] tab, and then click Codecs in the left list. In the right column click (select) H.264/AVC, in the column to the right of it - this needs to be set to 'libavcodec'. If it is not, click the 2nd column and a dropbox icon should appear.. click that and select libavcodec. Click OK at bottom of program.

Step #5, Test H.264 Video

OK, this officially makes ZERO sense.

As a goof, I set the H264 value to disabled and reloaded the m3u feed file:

And voila, it worked!

Does anyone have any idea why this would work at all?
