Constant-Q?
What is the difference between the Winamp and Constant-Q equalizer? Which one is better? Or are they just different?

It's just different.
The main difference is the 'width' of the bands. The normal EQ has wider bands at small adjustments and narrower bands at large adjustments. The constant-Q EQ has narrower bands at small adjustments and wider bands at large adjustments. |

I'm brand new here and signed up to reply on this thread. I've been using Winamp for over 10 years now, and it's better than ever. I use it for everything audio & video. These forums have been very helpful for getting the video configured. I also just discovered a few days ago the new EQ settings, such as ISO bands (awesome), which is why I'm here.
I did some comparison testing with both the Winamp 4Front and the Constant-Q. The 4Front attenuates high frequencies more than Const-Q. This is very important to me, since some of my music has really high treble levels, which results in too much high hat. So I'm sticking with 4Front. I don't use any of the plug-in EQFs such as the Fast Layer3 EQ in in_mp3.dll |

Speaking of the EQ, I was kinda wondering about something. It's been almost a year since I've been able to use Winamp on my PC (the damn thing died and I had to build a new one). The EQ seems to sound a lot different than I remember--which is odd since I'm using the same stereo, the same speakers, and the same soundcard with the same settings, to the best of my recollection.
Has there been a change to the default EQ in the last year or so? Constant-Q seemed to work a little better in my case, but both wind up distorting the sound on high-bitrate MP3s. |

I think C-Q EQ is not recommended for Rock Music. Also, please xplain about freq bands: ISO S & W freq bands. Thanks... |
