Is Winamp compatible with Via HD Audio Deck?

Hi,
I am not tech savvy. I downloaded Winamp a few weeks ago simply to use AAC_Plus 32K radio on a dial up connection. It is good and works well on that front.

About a week later I started to get an intermittent problem in closing down my computer. I run XP windows home edition. When the problem happens it takes a full 15 minutes to close down. Nothing runs slowly at all until I hit "Turn Off Computer" in the start menu, then even the option box takes a long time to come up. Once the process starts I get four boxes to close down programmes that are still active - first is "Via_HD_AudioDeck.exe", then ctfmon.exe (which is connected to Office and I have since disabled), and then explorer.exe comes up twice. This may happen once or for three or four sessions in a row, and then not happen once or for up to a week.

According to Hijackthis and Kaspersky I have no apparent trojans or spyware etc, and the computer runs properly until I start the shutdown process - nothing is running slowly until I hit the "Turn off Computer", but if I hit cancel on the option box then, EVERYTHING runs impossibly slow. For these reasons I suspect that I have an incompatible programme fighting with another programme when I start the shutdown process. Since the first to come up is an audio related programme, I am wondering whether the incompatibility is with Winamp?

I get both Winamp and HD_Adeck icons on both my desktop and next to my connection icon. Should I be disabling either when I am not using them, or should I be removing Via_HD_Audiodeck, which I have never used before this problem arose (but which has been on my desktop probably since I got this computer, and may be a driver for all audio for all I know) ??

I can not work out anything consistant that triggers the shutdown problem. It may or may not happen if I use audio, and nothing consistantly seems to cause it.

Any recommendations or suggestions will be appreciated.

Kind Regards, Kevin

I doubt if it's anything to do with Winamp....

Try installing Microsoft's User Profile Hive Cleanup service.

If the problem persists, attach your HijackThis log, dxdiag log and List Of Plugins:
