I think what he's saying is, he has a big ol' playlist, and as it's playing through, he might think "ooh, I like that track, I'll burn it a CD later", so he wants to sort of 'mark' it. After a while he'll have a CD worth of songs, and will burn it.

Rather than just running through his library and picking songs.
