Cannot rip more than one disc

I got an ipod, I got a big old CD collection, I got me Winamp Pro to run said ipod.

I've installed pro on my work laptop so I can rip while working - simple, dual task.

The problem is that when I get done ripping one, I put in a second disc and it hangs on 'reading disc'

My workaround is to close it each time.

I just updated to 5.55 from 5.4-some. Installed on top. Want to see if there's another solution before I do a full reinstall.

Clean Install Instructions Note: You only need to do a clean install if you are experiencing problems that cannot be resolved using any other method. If you are just upgrading to a newer version of Winamp 5.x then you can just install straight on top of the previous version of Winamp 2.x or 5.x (but not Winamp3), thus keeping all your current settings etc.
So I'm hoping for 'any other method' to come up.

There have been some other posts but not with answers. Sawg got all 'must include data' on one poster so here's my data.

Dell Inspiron 1501

-PC or Motherboard make/model

-CPU & RAM

AMD Turion 64 x2 mobile
1.79 ghz

1.8 gig ram

-Sound card or chip

Onboard sound. Sigma Tel Audio

-Videocard

Onboard video

ATI R485M

-Windows OS (including Service Pack, eg. WinXP sp2)

Win XP sp 2

-DirectX version (start > run > dxdiag)

9.0 C

-Winamp version (eg. 5.55)

5.55
-Confirmation of the Winamp installation type (Pro, Full, Bundle, Lite)

After a couple of hours of this opening and closing, it refused to close properly, so I did a complete clean install according to the instructions.

I'm currently on my second rip in a row.

pfaugh - third rip in a row, something seems to have settled down.

I think it had to do with the advanced audio settings (do you use the Sonic information grabber) or not.

Also hangs up if I auto eject, so I'm not doing that.
