Cannot open encoder
I was trying to convert files using Winamp from MP3 to AAC, so that my Wii Photo Channel could play them. Until now, there were no problems with doing this, but I have two files that don't seem to agree with Winamp. When I try to have them converted, I get the "cannot open encoder" error. I have Winamp v5.541 (x86). It's not the Pro version.

1. We would need a link to download one of the problem mp3's. 2. What is the bitrate, bits-per-sample & frequency of these mp3's? (eg. 192kbps, 16-bit, 44.1KHz) 3. Which of the AAC Encoders are you using, and what settings? 4. Please upgrade to 5.55 |

1. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EU40OI3I and http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7MLTAE8P
2. 96kbps, 24kHz. I don't have the bits-per-sample, mainly because I have no idea where to find it. 3. MP4/LC-AAC Encoder v1.28a 4. I'll do that and see if that helps. Edit: It didn't help. |

Yeah, they're MPEG-2 Layer 3 format, 16-bit, 24KHz.
(standard MP3 = MPEG-1 Layer 3, 16-bit, 44.1KHz) I think enc_aacplus can only convert from/to 44.1KHz (oops, wrong! see "EDIT" below). You'd need to convert to WAV first, then AAC. Make sure 'Convert to format' is checkmarked in WAV Encoder config and that the format is set to "PCM, 44.1KHz, 16 bit, stereo" [EDIT] Hmmm... I just tried it, and the transcoding is working ok for me. Right-click either of those two mp3's in playlist -> Send To -> Format Converter: MP4/LC-AAC Encoder = selected. Note that the highest it can go is 256 kbps. At a guess, you've got 320 kbps selected, which will produce the 'cannot find encoder' error, because no combination of 24KHz can achieve 320kbps output. |
