I think you have the Diskwriter plugin set as the active plugin. Go to the preferences (control + p) then select plug-ins > Output and select the Nullsoft WaveOut plugin.

I'd bet $100 you have disk-writer output enabled like Matt said.

Just change it back to WaveOut or DirectSound and never fool with that part of the preferences again

By the way, you ought to search your computer for really big WAV files, because that's what disk-writer does - it converts songs to WAV format to write to CD.

An easy way to search is using the Find... function on the Windows start-bar, making sure it's set to search in "local hard drives".

...or in Winamp, go to OPTIONS -> PREFERENCES -> PLUGINS -> OUTPUT, select the Nullsoft DiskWriter plugin and hit configure. It will show you the store folder that the wav files will have been written to. Then set the waveout plugin as Matt said.

Now you can go to the store folder and delete the wav files from it. Otherwise, if you just start deleting wav files from your computer without knowing what they do, you can kiss goodbye to all your windows sounds...

Okay, so then just make sure you've wiped out those gargantuan WAV files and you're all set for another week of fine listening until you accidentally do something else
