No Internet Connectivity, Freezing on Exit

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Winamp 5.551 and have had nothing but dramas. 5.4 used to never cause me stress.

I run a system of the following spec:
3.0GHz Core2
2 GB RAM
1.3 TB HDD Space
8600GT 512MB
Windows XP Pro

The first install was a complete/full. It seemed to be taking a while installing the featured services so I left it overnight, only to come back and find that it was still installing.

I disabled firewall/antivirus/spyware and let it go for another half hour but still didn't complete.

That seemed odd so I cancelled that completely and uninstalled what had been done so far, then restarted my computer.

I tried installation again but had the same deal with the featured services, so I cancelled the featured services but let it finish installing. Firewall/antivirus/spyware was still off.

It ran OK the first time. I was able to download missing covers and auto-tag files as I normally do.

At some point I closed Winamp and started it again a bit later.

The auto tagging feature no longer worked, nor did getting missing album covers, nor did the dashboard. Anything to do with connecting online did not work, but I wouldn't get any error messages.

Then when I tried to close Winamp it froze. I had to stop the process through task manager.

I checked all the settings (yes, I did read the FAQ and did some searching) but couldn't get it happening again, so I uninstalled and tried again...

This time I tried a default/typical installation and had a successful install. Everything was working. For that first run anyway...

Restart and same problem: no internet connectivity what so ever and freezing on shut down.

Like I said, I've read the FAQ and searched the forum but it doesn't look like anyone's got the same problem. If you do and you've solved it then I'd love to hear from you.

I'm about to go back to 5.4 which never gave me any grief.
