.asx files broken with Winamp 5.55 and WinDNAS?
Here's a strange one.
I was running winamp 5.54 with the SHOUTcast Source plugin feeding a Linux:DNAS server and .asx files worked great. Now I've moved to Winamp 5.55 and decided to put Win:DNAS on the same XP box as winamp to consolidate things. SHOUTcast Source is Ver 1.9.1. Here's where it gets wierd... Now, WMP is giving me real wierd behavior with the .asx files. Different errors on different systems. Windows 7 / Firefox 3.0.7 / WMP 12.0.7000.7000 "The file you are attempting to play has an extension (.) that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected behavior. Do you want to try to play this content?" Select YES and the stream plays normally. Windows 7 / IE8 (Compatibility mode and normal) / WMP 12.0.7000.7000 "Windows cannot display the webpage...Diagnose connection problems" (This error is usually DNS related, but if so, why it works in firefox with the error? Windows Vista SP1 / IE7 / WMP 11.0.6001.7004 It doesn't even make it to WMP. I only get a "Save-As" dialog. Windows Vista SP1 / Firefox 3.0.7 / WMP 11.0.6001.7004 Click open in firefox, WMP opens and does nothing. Like the file was never passed. Anybody have any ideas? |

Now I'm really confused. I am pointing back to my old linux DNAS and tried going back to the 1.9.0 DSP plugin. Still can't get it to work. HOWEVER: On my Vista Machine, if I manually type the URL of the DNAS server into WMP from the file menu, it plays. What the...? |
