Winamp Setup error Helpz!
Hello all I've read alot of the posts on those forums to help fix any errors people were having with winamp but none of helped me. Wondering if anyone can help me with this one.
I install the latest version of winamp, than it gets to the setup screen once I'm at the online services section I get an error saying Winamp has encountered an error and must close. Happens every time and I've uninstalled and reinstalled about 20 or 30 times now and nothing seems to work. if anyone has any help for me it would be much appreciated! Thanks^^ |

Hmm, strange...
Not easy to diagnose without at least seeing a HijackThis log & List Of Plugins: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs With Winamp closed, go to the %appdata%\winamp folder Open winamp.ini in Notepad Change the line in the [WinampReg] section from NeedReg=1 to NeedReg=0 Save winamp.ini Try to open Winamp now (the actual player, which is already installed, not the installer/setup) |

It is very strange...
I would have posted a list of the plugins but since I was installing it freshly and haven't added anything to the plugins for winamp. For some reason I cannot find the winamp.ini file anywhere. Perhaps since it never gets truly through the setup it never finished installing? I am currently trying to install the latest version. (full) I am attaching my dxdiag file if that might help. |

So now folder appears when you paste %appdata%\winamp into the Windows Explorer address bar (or Start->Run) and hit Enter?
On WinXP it should resolve at: C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Winamp and winamp.ini should be in the root folder (note that "Application Data" is a hidden folder by default, so if using a method different to %appdata%\winamp, you'll need to make sure you can view hidden files & folders first via Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab). The HijackThis log would probably be more useful than a dxdiag log (though at least the dxdiag log showed me what your Windows OS is). |

Hmm Thanks DJ Egg I found the file and changed it. Instead of it giving me an error now, it doesn't even start up.
I opened up my task manager to see if it was starting up at all and when I doubled clicked on winamp icon to open it, it started up for a second than it was gone. >_< |
