What is liquid audio and why doesn't the mp3-out plugin work on it?

Liquid Audio is a cheesey Secure format, like WMA by-passes the output system. you cannot convert it with winamp.

There is a LiquidAudio plugin listed in the winamp.com input plugins section, this'll at least allow you to play lqp & la1 files in Winamp, but it's 3.5mb
Naturally it requires LiquidPlayer5 to be installed too.
There might be a way to use OutputSplitter plugin (with DirectSound & MP3Out) in order to convert to MP3, though knowing LiquidAudio & its security features, I doubt if it'd work.
If there was a way to convert to mp3, I'd uninstall LiquidPlayer too, cos let's face it, it is pretty crap. Besides, it doesn't even support modified ID3 tags, let alone ID3v2 tags (yeah, it plays mp3's & wav's too).
