Sorry. It's a "cannot get any sound" thread.
I have used WinampPro for years. I love it. I have just built a brand new Pc for my 13 year old daughter and downloaded Winamp v5.552 (x.86) so she can join me in admiring its wonders. The first thing I did was protect against Adult stuff and the second was ... get some sound out of it ! No luck with the latter. I have only tried shoutcast radio as a test !
The PC is ... ------------- Motherboard ASUS M4N78 SE Processor AMD Athlon X2 64 Memory 4GB Operating system Vista Ultimate (yes, I know ... but it's what she wanted) Sound card ASUS EAH3450 with 512 on board. Graphics are on board. DirectX version 10 I headed on over to the technical support area and I have follwed the advice there for the directsound plugin ... Device tab inserted the Realtek High definition audio as the device Buffering tab Enabled CPU Usage control The install of Winamp was completely clean. No additional plugins have been installed. The only changes of any kind that I have made are described in this message. The Realtek management system produces sound from my speakers. TBH I am mystified. Can anybody offer any gems of wisdom please? |

How embarrassing! The ASUS EAH3450 with 512 on board is, of course a graphics card. I must have been dreaming when I typed that.
However ... no replies yet. I guess I will just have to keep plodding on. |

Does it look like it's playing (visualizations bouncing around, slider moving). Does it appear to be playing really, really fast. And not to offed, but you have checked the volume slider, right (all the way to the left is muted).

However, when I closed down the PC last night it started to install 47 Vista updates (as I said, it's new). When I fired it up just now the problem has gone away. Now I have sound. So it's good that the problem is over - but I would like to have known what it was. So thanks anyway. John |
