Album Art Support for Portable Devices?

Hi folks,

I'm a long time user of Winamp but I've only just started using it for my portable device... The music transfer is working fine but the album art isn't being transferred. I have a "folder.jpg" within each album folder on my desktop HDD.

I've searched the forum, googled and read through the online help and I can't find any reference to how this new "Album Art Support for Portable Devices" feature is actually supposed to work. If I knew that there was a particular method or format I needed then I could work on it but there's just nothing that I can find.

My device is an HTC Touch Diamond and I've tried it in both activesync and simple USB drive modes.

Cheers
Dave

Bump!

Sorry to bump this but I've just had another google and come up empty handed again. Lots of discussion of album art in Winamp, the pros and cons of embedding and a few threads about iPods...I'm planning on getting an iPhone in the new year but it would be nice to get portable device support working now on my old device.

Does anyone know if album art support actually works for any device other than an iPod?

Cheers
Dave

Bump.

Have I missed out some vital information or does no-one know the answer?

It's a bit of a shame that I can't find any documentation relating to this Album Art Support for Portable Devices feature, apparently new in 5.5.

use mp3tag to add album art to your music...album art is embedded into your music..this way you won't need any additional folder.jpg crap. watch this youtube vid..

Thanks for the reply!

I had already considered using embedded art and although I have 1200 albums to process, I knew I could use a batch process. I'd like to consider it a last resort as the use of embedded art really can't be considered proper portable art support at all. There must be some other way, unless it really is just iPods that are supported?

Bump...

I did some more reading and searching and learned that the default file name for album art is %album%.jpg - I'm sure I tried that before I began this thread and I have tried it again now without success.

I would be grateful if somebody could clarify this... Does Winamp have album art support for portable devices or not? It appears to me that it doesn't.

If I get nowhere then I guess I'll embed the art in all my files. I prefer to keep using Winamp even if it doesn't actually support album art for portable devices that aren't iPods.

Due to the lack of replies and documentation I'm forced to conclude that Winamp does not have Album Art Support for Portable Devices at this time, unless portable devices are redefined as just iPods.

I'm going to want to use Winamp to add music to my new Nokia N900 in the near future so I've decided to take the matter out of Winamp's hands and use mp3tag to embed all the art, something I had been reluctant to do.

As much as I like Winamp, it's disappointing to find that specifically listed features are unsupported and apparently non-existent. Keep up the otherwise good work!
