Winamp Playlist Generator has hung 5 times
Winamp 5.551 (x86) - clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
Skin: Green Hill Zone Windows Vista Home Premium 6.0 SP1 Dell Plugin ml_plg.dll - Playlist Generator The Playlist Generator hangs every time it is in the middle of step 4 ("analyzing files") of building the database causing Vista to tell me that "Winamp has stopped running." Each time I delete the relevant files in my appdata folder to start the scan again and it hangs on step 4. |

I think that I have seen this happen once when either there was a corrupt file or it was trying to scan a video. I am sorry I dont remember exactly. Unfortunately, you cant see which file the scan is freezing on. But I would check the video smart view and see if anything is in there. If there is, remove those and try the scan again. Also if you have some dodgy mp3s or something, do the same.

I have a similar problem.
But I'm running 5.56(x86) with the Bento Skin on a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista Ultimate SP2. I don't know if any of that matters, but this is really frustrating. :/ I have about 30 gb of music. Though I originally had lots of problems with doing the first scan, after deleting the relevant files several times it finally worked. Unfortunately, after some rearranging recently, I realized that the playlist generator was still including songs that had been removed from my library. I decided to scan again, but this didn't fix the problem. I reset the database and haven't been able to get it done since. It always goes through about 4,000 before winamp unexpectedly shuts down. I've deleted the files several times, and installed Winamp twice. |

I had the same problem. I noticed Winamp taking up over 1Gb of RAM and 1Gb of virtual memory. Try this workaround:
