Windows 7 - M3U File association not working

Hi,

is there a known problem with file associations in Windows 7? Especially with .m3u files. They are listed as associated with "unkown application" even though I choose "open with Winamp". I am using the German version of Windows 7, so I assume it is "unkown application" in the English version.

There is no other Mediplayer installed, except for WMP12 of course.

This does effect all my Windows 7 PCs.

you actually use the plugins with Winamp in normal use you will not otherwise know.

A * means the plugin has support for metadata queries on a file (2.9+)
A # means the plugin supports saving modified metadata via Winamp apis (2.9+)
A % means the plugin supports the unified file info dialog and a '%+' shows it adds its own pages (5.5+)
A || means the plugin supports the api_decoder used for transcoding/replaygain/etc (5.34+)

A || means the plugin supports the api_decoder used for transcoding/replaygain/etc (5.34+)
and '(Seekable)' indicates extra support in processing of audio data via api_decoder

A {} around a symbol means the plugin supports the unicode version of the api

Having the same issue myself, even though Winamp is associated with M3U files, double clicking on them just brings up the choose program dialogue box.

Here's how I have the default programs set up. As you can see there are multiple file types that are associated with Winamp, but shown up as unknown program.

Since I'm not the only one with this issue, I hope winamp dev will fix this soon.

Exactly the same happens to me! Windows 7 32 bit. M3U ,PLS won't stick to winamp. I can't change the icon file for PLS. Even tried to change association through Total commander - no luck. Hope this will be fixed soon as more and more users switch to Windows 7. I was sitting on WinXP for a few years as I hate Vista, but Windows 7 rocks!

Thanks! Overlooked that this is known bug and fixed in internal build. When will we see new downloadable build?
Any ETA?

I have had this problem with every media player I have tried. I use JetAudio as well as Winamp with same problem. Also tried Quintessential with same result. Damn Microsoft meddling. No problem in XP or Vista. Look forward to a fix!

If there's an internal fix already would it be possible for you to upload the Elevator.exe file somewhere if that's all that's needed to fix the problem. Or is there more to it?

Since it doesn't look like Winamp 5.57 is coming out any time soon. It's annoying not being able to double click on playlist files and have them open in Winamp.

I am a little bit disappointed how this issue has been treated. It should have been fixed so long ago. Windows 7 has been on the market for months now and still there is no fix. That kind of bugs should be fixed by a hotfix and should not be postponed till the regular release date.

Hopefully there is a fix at least in this year . . .

This bug has been around since 2008 with Vista, don't expect it to get fixed anytime soon.

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=2421545 has a reg file which DJ Egg made, just replace D:\\Program\\ with the location of your winamp and the m3u problem gets fixed.

I don't quite understand why a simple bug like this still exists but oh well.
