I can't get more than 12 book marks-HELP!!
I like to think I'm OK with computers and I worked out how to use bookmarks to play albums I've saved on my hard disk. I've edited the the Winamp.Bm file by opening it using notepad and set it so that it loads a particular playlist when I select a bookmark. Thats the bit I do understand but WHY CAN I ONLY HAVE 12 BOOKMARKS? It's driving me mad! I've used a free program called CDex to record CD tracks as Mp3's and I have fianally got a decent sized collection but I can't fit anything else into the bookmarks menu. Is it a bug? Is there a way round it ? or am I just seriously stuffed?

I don't quite follow you here.
What do you mean exactly? You should be able to add a limitless amount of bookmarks. The only downside of using Notepad to edit the winamp.bm file is that Notepad can only cope with filesizes of up to 64kb, after that it gives you a stupid "Not enough memory" error message. However, there's no way that 12 bookmarks can add up to 64kb of data. I've got over 100 bookmarks in my list, and winamp.bm is only approx 7kb. Firstly, make sure that the file doesn't have the Read-Only attribute (Properties) Also, make sure that the Winamp dir itself isn't Read-Only. If you've used the "Customize this folder" tool, you'll need to undo it. Next, make sure that each entry is on a new line. The 1st line should be the path & filename & the 2nd line should be equal to the bookmark description, which depends on how you have the ID3 tags set to display (mp3 only), eg. Artist - Title, etc. C:\Music\MP3\Monglord.mp3 Monglords - We're All Monged http://198.77.112.50:8032/ Radiostorm.com: Creed Radio 56k C:\Music\Playlists\Bollocks.m3u Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks LP http://160.79.1.50:8000 SOUR RADIO - Pure DnB str8 from the archives etc etc etc Also, make sure Winamp is closed before editing this file in Notepad. Also make sure Notepad is not saving the file as a text file (with txt extension). I can't think of anything else right now, so let us know how ya get on! |

This is odd, indeed. In fact, I no longer use Winamp's bookmarks, I now use Abyssaudio, which is a great little MP3 manager/bookmark utility. But before, I used to edit the winamp.bm file without any problem. Tell us if you find out what's wrong, I'd be interested to know.

I know what the problem was after all!
I went through all the advice DJegg gave and it still didn't work. The problem was so simple that it was almost impossible to find.
After adding the last current entry to the winamp.bm file all you have to do is press enter so that the cursor moves onto a new line below the last entry. Once you've done that save it like normal. My problem was I had 13 entrys but it was only displaying the first twelve. All I had to do was press enter. Simple or what! |
