Just curious, this has sort of been nagging at me..what is Winamp Agent (winampa.exe), why is it set up to start whenever I start my computer and remain invisible in the background, and why does it try to send out information on occasion? I have yet to use Ethereal to check what exactly is being sent out, but I think I might give it a shot.
Oh, and how long will it be before this post is removed? ;> |

To Disable it:
Start -> Run -> Type "MSCONFIG" -> Sleect Startup -> Untick Winampa.exe The Purpose, i think: To have a little system tray icon, the when you clicks on it launches winamp, seems stupid you may aswell just have Winamp minimized. |

aryx & a-arse:
To disable the Winamp Agent: Start Winamp, press CRTL + P, goto Agent and uncheck the box "Enable Winamp Agent". It maintains the files that are asociated with Winamp. That means if you install new software that uses the same extensions, the extension still will be asociated with Winamp. |

what you can do is tell winamp to maintain it's file associations but disable the agent because everytime WA is opened it gets it's associations back. And since I open WA alot I disabled the agent a while ago.

Basically, Winamp Agent was a reaction to programs like RealPlayer that are programmed to steal audio associations from other applications without asking and associate them with RealPlayer.
As I rarely (if ever) use realplayer, I don't feel the need to run Agent, but I know it's there if I ever need it. ![]() -- Jarsonic do justly | love mercy | walk humbly |
