Transfer WinAmp settings to new computer
Ok, so I use my laptop and WinAmp to DJ at a private club.. I have it all configured to exactly how I want it.. Well I am wanting to upgrade my laptop from Vista to 7.
What I want to know is if there is a way where you can just copy over a configure file and have all of my settings all done for me, or if there is another way to do this?? Is this possible?? Or will I have to do a clean install of WinAmp and re-do all of my settings manually? |

Most config info is held in %appdata%/Winamp, so back the whole folder up somewhere safe.
Next uninstall Winamp, and if you get the message 'Not all files removed etc.' don't delete anything else, reboot. and then save what's left of the main Winamp folder. This will give you two folders, one with most of your configs and one with all your added(3rd party) plugins etc. When you have installed the new OS and set things up, copy the two folders you saved back to their original location and reinstall Winamp. Nothing guarenteed, but should catch most things. Problems may arise if you need to update a 3rd party plugin, or if you have files in paths that are different from the ones you used previously. Everything is treated in more detail here : http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#clean Give this a read through first if you want to take a more selective approach to what gets kept. Good luck. UJ |
