Winamp 2.75 can not control the volume, when playing Audio-CD's (CDA-Files), though the volume slide can be moved and the display shows the percentage... What's wrong? I have the german version by MPEX.net...

Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Output -> WaveOut -> configure
Make sure Volume Control -> Enable is checkmarked.

If this doesn't work:
Prefs -> Output -> select : DirectSound plugin
DirectSound -> config : make sure Volume Control -> Enable is checkmarked.

If this still doesn't work, reselect WaveOut (Prefs -> Output)
Prefs -> Input -> CD Plugin -> config
Uncheck : sample input from soundcard for vis
(or vice-versa if already unchecked)

Stil no joy?
Try replacing the default CD plugin (in_cdda.dll) with CDReader plugin

Thank you, DJEgg!

None of your hints works. I tried the CD Reader Plugin. But, I can't use it, because my CD-ROM doesn't support RAW_READ-Function.

Is playing CD-Audio not a standard feature of Winamp? In my opinion, it's a bug, if Winamp can't control the volume of this type without the standard preferences and without additional plugins... Any additional idea?

Okay, you've obviously got a fairly old CD-ROM device . . . yes, no, maybe?
Get rid of CDReader & re-enable the default plugin.

Windows Volume Control:
Is CD Audio level definitely selected in Options -> Properties -> Playback?
And it's definitely not muted & the level is up high enough?

It's a bug in your opinion because you can't seem to get it to work.
However, CD's play perfectly fine with Winamp for 99% of the other 1000's of users (at least as far as audio volume & volume control is concerned ).

I'm still trying to work out what your problem actually is!
At first I thought you were saying that you couldn't hear AudioCD's thru' Winamp at all, but on 2nd reading, now I'm thinking that what you actually meant was that you just can't control the audio level by using Winamp's volume slider, but everything else works fine. Am I correct with this assumption?
If so, Prefs -> Output -> WaveOut -> config:
make sure "Volume Control -> Enable" is checkmarked
Also try "alt setting mode" (both with & without "enabled")

I'm awfully sorry for my unqualified imputation. Thank you again for your help!

Currently I sit here in the office, using WinNT4(SP6), and, everything works fine (with the standard preferences!).

At home I have Win98(SP1) running. Yes, you're right: I can hear sound while playing CD-Music with Winamp 2.75. And, I can control the volume with Windows' volume control. But, moving Winamp's volume slider doesn't change the volume, while the display in Winamp varies the percentage...

Concerning my CD-ROM drive, it's not so old. It's a TEAC 532-EA, built at end of 1998. But, the CD-Reader plugin shows an ASPI-error message, that the device doesn't answer. The readme file say's, the reason is, that the drive ist too old and doesn't support RAW-READ function?!

Let me try your tips step by step again, when I'm at home. On the other hand, here under NT4, there are exactly the the same preferences and installation options, I think. And it works...

Thank you again, DJEgg!!

Winamp is great! DJEgg is great! Nullsoft is great!

The problem is not Winamp; the same problem has Windows Media Player!

Now, this posting is off topic. But, has anyone an idea, what the reason is?

Thank you very much for your help (and in advance)!!

Now, Winamp works fine, using the "CD Reader" Plugin. In it's options, there was another drive selected...

Thank you very much again, DJEgg!!
