Hi!

If I am reading the docs right, If I have a file in my Win2k content directory, say scpromo.mp3 and I provide a link to scpromo.pls, this should, according to the docs, start the file streaming AND transmit me a playlist for the rest of the songs in the content file...correct?

When I try to do this to any file in the content dir, I get an a return error of Invalid Resource. The file is there (along with others..) and when I goto listen.pls, it starts the regular stream.

Any ideas?

Did you read the forums version of the SHOUTcast FAQ: http://players.shoutclub.com/SHOUTcastFAQ.txt ?
I discussed it a bit in there.
First the on-demand feature will only play the files requested, so a call for http://IP:PORT/content/scpromo.pls will only play scpromo.mp3 and then stop.
The invalid request error you speak of is caused by the way your are starting the DNAS. In the FAQ (above) I talk about fixing that for Windows. Give that section a read over and if you still have problems I have an image of it that I'll find and post if necessary.

Oh yeah if you want it to play one file after another you will need to create a separate playlist. It is easier to create a .m3u but your server may not know how to handle them and download them as text but anyway to get to the point. Open up textpad and just do the following:
http://IP:PORT/content/file1.mp3
http://IP:PORT/content/file2.mp3
http://IP:PORT/content/file3.mp3
http://IP:PORT/content/file4.mp3

Just make a new line for each file and note the .mp3 (that is not an error). Save that with a .m3u extension then upload it on a server. It will not play like a normal stream however there will be buffering between each file.

Wow Tom. You the man. The start-in issue was the problem. A Showstopper like that should appear in the readme, or it should be set that way by the installer.

Also, do you know of any plug-ins (or any way) of having a dynamic list of songs (in the content dir) posted to the status page for people to click on to stream?

I would have thought this would have been done before.

-Thanks again!

Sorry Bob I know of no such plugin. It sounds like a really good idea but as of yet haven't seen it done. I am not sure if a plugin would be able to alter the Status page I would think that if a plugin or script was wrote it would have to create its own page.

That could be arranged, too. I cant believe a constant update of song titles written to a html page plug-in hasnt been done before.

It would be great if it was incorporated into the status page because then you could play the live stream or pick a title to play..

Thanks again for your help!

Ps. Pass this idea along to the plug-in guru's!

hi I tried the following :

http://IP:PORT/content/file1.mp3
http://IP:PORT/content/file2.mp3
http://IP:PORT/content/file3.mp3
http://IP:PORT/content/file4.mp3

Just make a new line for each file and note the .mp3 (that is not an error). Save that with a .m3u extension then upload it on a server. It will not play like a normal stream however there will be buffering between each file.

so now when I click the link to the m3u link ( http://myserver.com/myfile.m3u) I get invalid resource requests, tho linking directly from the website as http://IP:PORT/content/file1.pls it works just fine.

Checking my shoutcast logfile, from the m3u I see:
Invalid resource request(/content/file1.mp3)

but from the direct link I see:
./content/file1.mp3

and it works. I noted the "." and wonder why it's different and causing the problem. Any help?

That is actually a feature of SHOUTcast, it is supposed to keep people from downloading the MP3, even though it can still be done.

OK, just a little confused then. Why post this as an option when it doesn't work? I'd like customizeable playlists through a URL, is this not possible?

It's not an option unfortunately, just a feature.

There is no inventory page, the On Demand feature is really nothing more then a webserver, the only main feature is PLS creation and Browser Detection. Also the fact that it filters to MP3's only, so you can't put an HTML page in there I don't think.

You have to create the rest on your own server, not through SHOUTcast.
