cd audio freezing

Hi

When I try to play any audio cd (.cda) on winamp, the audio freezes. it's not the pc or winamp freezing, it's the audio that winamp reproduces that goes freezing

it plays right for 1 second, then the audio "breaks and tries to go", but can't go. and this keeps happening as the music goes on (slowly)

actually I have a new pc, it's a core 2 quad 2.5 ghz, 2GB RAM, windows 7 home basic

The winamp version is the full standard (the one with 10Mb). The drive is a samsung SATA S223C. it plays right on wmp.

please give me a tip of what this could be. I haven't installed any codec pack yet
