W7/64 and out_disk.dll

Hi.

Using now windows 7/64 I've just noticed that the mp3 as coding choice doesn't appear any more on the Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in V2.14 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...11(VS.85).aspx) . So no chance to write mp3 directly.
Anyone has a solution to get this choice back. How to add MP3 codec back in W7/64.

Tnx in forecast.

Even if you found a solution, I highly recommend, that you use the Winamp Transcoder to transcode files to mp3 format.

Winamp transcoder is available in Playlist and library via right click -> send to -> format converter.

Winamp transcoder uses the LAME mp3 encoder, which has a much better quality, than most ACM codecs, especially the ACM MP3 codec in Windows is based on Fraunhofer and not as good as LAME.

For files, which are not compatible with the transcoder, you still can use DiskWriter, but writing pcm data in wav containers and transcoding them later to mp3 format using the transcoder is probably the better solution.

Hi Koopa.

Tnx taking time to give me some good advice.
The reason why I need to use the winamp DiskWriter in some case is that I can switch between the original file and the final file the very good plugin "stereo tool 5.00" which could be amazing some time.
Of course I know about the winamp transcoder, nice tool also, but you can't put any plugin in between or not.

Winamp transcoder uses the LAME mp3 encoder (like my DiskWriter in W7/64 now, with my mod), which has a much better quality, than most ACM codecs, especially the ACM MP3 codec in Windows is based on Fraunhofer and not as good as LAME (in W7/64 there is no MP3 codec anymore, just a sort of decoder, no coder anymore)

Well, using DiskWriter because of DSP effects is a valid point.

Personally I'm still using the DiskWriter to convert files, like old Super Nintendo soundtracks to wav files, these files I can later burn to audio or as mp3 data discs.

So the good ol' DiskWriter still can be very useful, if you want to transcode files, where the input plugin doesn't support the transcoder API or if you want to use DSP effects.

Most ACM codecs really suck. When I was trying a LAME based ACM codec a few years ago, it was still labeled as experimental and buggy. But nice to see that there seems to be better ACM codecs these days, hehe.
