I noticed an option in the driver control panel for my sound card under hardware acceleration:
This option allows the decoding of MP3 files read by programs using DirectShow filters (for example, Windows Media Player). You must quit and then restart any open programs used to play MP3 files for a change in this setting to take effect. Although I'm not exactly sure how my sound card could make MP3 files play any faster or better, maybe it's less crackling or something? Anyways, appearantly WiMP benefits from this, but how about Winamp? I just got this device, and want to make the most of it!

At a guess, Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Output -> select "DirectSound".
This makes Winamp use DirectX drivers for audio output. However, DirectShow is mainly used for video playback, so maybe you should install a video input plugin? There's a list of available ones here: TSGH - Where did all those plugins go http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=35627 Tara or Weedsoft = highly recommended, though Vidamp & NiceMC support more formats, but be warned, these 2 are known to be potentially rather buggy! If they're not in that thread's list, they're definitely listed in the Input Plugins section of the winamp.com site. Then again, MP3 does belong to the MPEG video family, so you never know !?!? btw, can you be more specific as to where this setting actually is? Is it in System -> Device Manager, MultiMedia -> Devices, or your Soundcard's Control Panel? And what soundcard do you have exactly? You never know, but this kind of information may help us to troubleshoot skipping problems for other people with the same soundcard? |
