Running Winamp from my External HD

So I run two different computers and I want to run Winamp on an external hard drive with all my music on it as well. MY question is, how do I use Winamp on the hard drive when the drive letter changes for each computer? What if I have to switch to a different computer I never used, the drive letter will change again...

Could someone help me with this confusion?

winamp is only configured to run on one computer per install
you can backup the program files and such but they wont work correctly unless they are installed on each system
if you have a pro license you can run the key on as many computers as you own (from what i have seen)"knock on wood"

i believe there is a way to bypass the glitch but it means to assign a permanent drive letter to the drive within the computers control panel (dont ask me to explain it since its real complicated)

thanks rob

There are easy answers:

My favourite is only place the Music on the external hard drive, and install two separate copies of Winamp on the two separate PCs. Each then has their own copy of the Media Library and keep their own drive letters.

This is how I do it, but with a network server.

There is also another option. If you really want to install Winamp AND the Music on the same external hard drive, change the drive letter assigned to the hard drive on both PCs.

On Windows XP/Vista/Win7 - Right Click "My Computer", Select "Manage", Select "Disk Management", locate your external hard disk from the list, Right Click, Select "Change drive letters and paths", Choose any letter that is free for both PCs.

Job done.

(Remember - keep a backup of that external hard drive. The don't last too long, and are far too easy to drop...)
