Winamp versions on my computer after 2.6 spontaneously give me an "Illegal Operation" message in the middle of an MP3 playing. I asked about this before...PLEASE, WOULD SOMEBODY HELP ME AND E-MAIL ME WITH THIS?!!! I don't want to have to use other players, because Winamp performs best on my machine...at least, it used to.
My e-mail address is: TheNextBillGates@juno.com |

Please supply full sys specs (including Windows OS) and full details of the error message (stack dump info not required).
Usually, the best way to fix such problems would be to remove 3rd party plugins, uninstall (via Add/Remove Programs), & Reinstall. Precise details here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=49641 All versions @ http://www.winampheaven.da.ru |

My computer equipment:
-Shuttle HOT-555 mobo -IDT WinChip C6 200MHz CPU -72MB RAM -Western Digital Caviar AC12100 IDE Hard Drive -MS Windows 98 (NOT SE) -ATI Xpert 98 video card -Creative SBLive! Value sound card I do not use third party plugins. Winamp can be open by itself (except for some ATI TSRs). The song will play for a minute or so and Winamp will spontaneously crash. Any version of 2.7x does this. |

Full details of the error message please!
(including title of initial error box & further info via "details" button, stack dump info not required) ATI videocards are renowned for causing problems. Search the forums using "ATI Videocard" as keyword ?!?! Make sure you have the latest drivers. Have you recently installed any new drivers for SBLive? If so, make sure there's no gen_nomad.dll in the Winamp\Plugins dir. Full details here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=49692 Also make sure Creative haven't installed a replacement mp3 codec (ctmp3.acm in system dir) in Multimedia Control Panel -> Devices -> Audio codecs. If so, follow the instructions here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=50447 Apart from that, run virus checker, scandisk, defrag? Did you try the full uninstall -> reinstall? Or maybe try restoring all the default settings by deleting winamp.ini (Winamp dir) Make sure Winamp is closed first. btw, do you have the Winamp Agent enabled? If so, try disabling it (Prefs -> Agent: uncheck all 3 options) What other programs are running in systray? (firewall, crashguard, virus scan, etc?) Realistically speaking though, this is all speculation until I know the full details of the error message. |
