Winamp non-compatible whit VIA HD 5.1 !?
Before givin' tips see the attachment ! ! !
I have an Asus motherboard m4a78lt-m whit a VIA HD onboard soundcard... windows 7 x64 I tried everything I found on the web about settings and plugins ... ![]() Windows whit the 5.1 sys works just fine in movies, games, other mp3 players,etc ... whit winamp simply doesen't work, only in stereo mode... ![]() I wonder what's whit that sett " Hardware mixing: unsupported" !?!? Please teach me what to do so I can enjoy my winamp... thanks |

Just make sure, that "Allow Surround Sound" is enabled under preferences > playback.
Winamp can use all speakers, when you have stereo sources, but the signal will be just simultaneous played on the center and the rear speakers. Real surround sound only works with surround sources. I bet your issue is driver related. Make sure, that you're using latest Via HD audio drivers. I'm not sure, how good the 64Bit driver fory our device is, neither do I have any idea, which settings you may must enable to make it work. If you want to use for example all speakers in Winmp for mp3 files with Creative cards, you must enable "CMMS 3D" effects in Creative driver, otherwise only 2 speakers will work for stereo sources. I have the latest drivers and the "allow surround sound" is marked... and still won't work ... donno' what the cause is...
