Opening Video Files With Another Program from Winamp Media Library

Hope that title didnt confuse anyone.

Is there a way to have it so that when i double click on a video file in Winamp's Media Library, it opens in a separate media player?

I love winamp for its sorting abilities with video files (im on XP), but on my computer, videos play better on other media players.

If there is no way to do that, can someone tell me how to use COREavc codec for winamp?

Are there other "media libraries" out there that already does this?

Nope. All you can do really is right-click the entry in the ML
then select 'Explore item folder'
then double-click the actual video file from there
(assuming you've set some other player as default)

As for using CoreAVC...
What file formats? Just MP4 & M4V, or also AVI, MKV, FLV, etc?

Are you using Winamp Pro or the free version?

For MP4/M4V, see here:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=155680#mp4v

For AVI, MKV & FLV, you'd need to remove the native plugins (in_avi.dll, in_mkv.dll, in_flv.dll)
then add those file extensions to the list in in_dshow config instead
(basically, pretty much the same instructions as MP4)

thanks for the response.

Im using winamp 5.581 pro.

Im trying to use CoreAVC for both mp4 and mkv files. i followed the instructions on that link you gave me, but when i play any mkv/mp4 file, the coreavc icon doesnt show up on my tray. It always shows whenever I play the mkv/mp4 files on other media players. So Im assuming it isnt being used by winamp to play the file. what does show up on the tray is the ffdshow video/audio icons and the haali splitter icon.

Those files always look choppy when i play them on winamp. it streams clearly on every other player since its using CoreAVC when it plays it.

I mean i can always just open them through windows explorer, but i really like the winamp media library. Its just more simple. If only i can get it to work better.

Try using DirectShow Filter Manager to give CoreAVC top priority over haali/ffdshow.
Or just uninstall Haali splitter....
