Ok here is the deal.. I recently upgraded from a previous version of winamp (2.03) to 2.74.

I double click on an MP3 and it puts it in the queue.. good that's what I want..

However when I close winamp.. and at a later time double click on another MP3 the song(s) that I previously listened to are retained in the playlist.. instead of starting over each time winamp is loaded..

It worked fine in version 2.03.. but this new version just updates the previous playlist instead of creating a new one..

Not good if i listen to 500 songs one day.. and the next just want to listen to one.. and it sticks it at the end of the queue..

Please let me know how to fix this.. thanks..

I need a little more info.

Now do you mean in the old version, while Winamp was running and you double clicked on a song it put it in que, but if winamp wasn't running it would start a new playlist.

And now in the new version, it enques no matter what?

If life calls and you're busy, let the answering machine pick-up.

Just so you know, my previous avatar was NOT a swastika, nor did it have much similarity to one. Just thought I'd clear that up since I cannot use my own original art work.

On old version of winamp.. if winamp was not open it would enqueue.. but do so on a brand new playlist..

the new version enqueues same as before.. but keeps an ongoing playlist that you have to manually clear each time..

I would like winamp to clear it's playlist each time on startup.. and want the default action to be enqueue..

are you sure you didn't have a plug-in doing that, because, I've never heard of that before and there are no settings in Winamp for that. However, if you shut down without closing Winamp that would have erased the playlist if you didn't save it

I don't think it was a plug in... it was a fairly old version too..

and i always closed it before shutting down..
i'll double check the plugins anyway though.

Well, I'm as puzzled as you are, it might have been a feature they removed.

A suggestion...

I am having the same problem.

Lets say I listen to my mp3's all day, having a playlist (not saved, only in winamp's memory) of 100 tracks. Now, I shutdown winamp, use 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer' to browse to one mp3 I would really want to listen to now.

Winamp enqueues the mp3, which is just what I want it to do. The bad thing is, that it still has all the 100 tracks in its playlist and the one I wanted is the last. I have to manually advance to the last track and/or clear the playlist (except the last track of course).

So, what I would suggest, is to add one explorer context menu command, 'enqueue in empty list' or similar. This way, those who like to start all over, can do it, and those who just want to add tracks to playlist, can also do it using the 'enqueue' command.

EXACTLY

That is my exact same sentiment..

If i wanted to *save* the playlist, I would have.. it seems like with the newest version you do not get a choice to either start with a new playlist, or append to the previous playlist.

This is inconvinient and wastes time to have to manually delete previous entries every time.

I hope they add a feature to "start from scratch" each time you load winamp.

Winamp has advanced a long way since v2.03
New features:
Playlist Editor -> List button -> Save List
Use this feature to save any large playlists, so you can open them again at a later date if needs be so. You can also use the Add button -> Add file feature to add more trax to these lists at a later date, and then save them again.
If you want to start a fresh playlist next time you open Winamp, but still keep enqueue as the default action, simply clear the playlist b4 exiting.
List button -> New
Another way is to rt click files in Explorer -> Play in Winamp (instead of Enqueue).
There's many more features you may not know about. Maybe go back to the download page & click on some of the links at the top (walkthrough/overview/manual/etc)

its easy to fix

go to the winamp preferences > Setup > File Types. and then deselct the option that says Enqueue as default action. Plain and simple.

Bamus Maximus

Thanks, Bamus!

How can I keep WinAmp's "associate with CD" option to stay clicked on?
It keeps unchecking the box by itself.

Also, I am having a hard time figuring out all the options at the bottom, like:

Inv.Sel
SEL
Sel Zero

New list
LIST OPT
Save List

Whenever I hit 'Save list'
my Computer/mydocuments/music pops up. But I'd like to save the list that's already on WinAmp!
Isn't WinAmp recording also, and able to keep stuff in file?

Thanks again, Hugh.

Thank you for the informative reply, however I do not wish to have to manually clear the playlist every time... That is why I started this thread is to find another way around it..

I would still like to enqueue instead of play however, so I want my cake and want to eat it also..

I do not think it would be very hard to add this feature.. (hell it was present in the old version)

(Directed towards Winamp)
I love it when they force options on us.. like save playlist.. argh.. why not give us the choice instead of push it on us..

we are not all dumb mainstream MP3 listeners who's first MP3 experience was napster..

This feature was introduced many versions ago, gawd, just how many versions has there been between v2.03 & 2.75 anyway . . . ?

Due to popular demand, people wanted Winamp to remember their last playlist when it was next opened, rather than having to reload it all again. This is especially useful if you've got a regular playlist of over (say) 500 mp3's.

If you would like Winamp to permanently open with a blank playlist, try this:
List button -> New (to clear playlist)
Close Winamp
Goto the Winamp dir & make winamp.m3u Read-Only (via File -> Properties)
Voila!

If maybe you save many different playlists, you can create a dir and place as many new shortcuts in it as you want, each seperate one directing Winamp to open & start playing a different playlist.
Full details here:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=38085

If you're still not happy, then you can always go back to your 2.03 or something?
