Could you please post a link to that discussion for me here? I searched high and low on this subject and found nothing. There certainly is no mention in this thread, which is where it ought to be. It's annoying to prepare a full bug report and then discover that it is known but that no one bothered to include it in the list of known bugs! That just wastes everybody's time.

Hmm, strange. I can't reproduce the problem on Win7. It all works beautifully for me.
I guess someone on the dev team will need to test it under Vista....

that issue sounds more like the OS inserting some compatibility setting onto Winamp as a few months ago a shim was removed as part of a Windows 7 set of patches and i think this was also done for Vista so that may be something. either way i've not been able to reproduce the issue on either of my Win7 machines even when they've had 'compatibility modes applied' due to crashes from when i've been testing plug-in updates.

check Event Viewer (Control Panel -> Administrative Tasks -> Event Viewer), looking for source: winamp type:error (big red exclamation)

should be something like "faulting module.....etc" helpful for the error tracking

To reproduce, install Winamp and the plugins then reinstall over the top or perform an upgrade from a previous version. The plugins will cease to work after the reinstall/upgrade.

Reinstalling the plugins renders them working again.

confirmed by multiple people and I believe one of the Winamp developers on the HCS forum, where discussion of VGMStream takes place.

I sure hope this gets fixed in the next version. I haven't tested the recent beta.

there's no easy way to determine what is different about the one dll (ogg one when i looked into it) which causes the loading failure of in_vgmstream. and as was suggested in the 2 threads which have now been made about it on the HCS forum is to change how in_vgmstream works to use delay-loading of the supporting dlls (which also fixes the issues with other people not reading the help file and not installing the supporting dlls).

and adding in a filename based check isn't really a good solution as some other plug-ins seem to be affected (those built with a non-MS compiler from what i remember).

@spiq: please provide the additional reports needed as detailed in http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=320336 plus you've not confirmed if your install is clean though i see you've used ml_ipod based on your other post and that is known to cause issues with the taskbar due to the plug-in not being compatible with the unicode support Winamp has had since v5.34.

3. Add mp4 to supported filetypes
4. Sync the podcast and the portable device

Please provide us with a link to a sample mp4 podcast/feed so we can try to reproduce the problem.

Also confirm that you don't have the "Force transcoding of compatible tracks if bitrate is over x kbps" setting enabled
(under: Prefs -> Portables -> Device/Drive ->Transcoding tab -> Advanced)

Me fail - I had force transcoding of compatible tracks if bitrate is over x kbps enabled, and disabling it fixed the problem. Thanks for the help.
