Hello,
I'm getting problems with the Wi-Fi Device Plug-in. I did a clean install (uninstalled the 5.59 Beta Build 3033, cleaned files and registry, rebooted, installed 5.6 - without restoring my settings Backup, so the installation is as clean as can be), then added a couple of albums to the library to test the WiFi transfer. I didn't change any settings in the Portable Devices settings menu. Anyway, once I hit the "send to wifi device", the tracks line up perfectly in the transfer window. The first track starts to be uploaded, reaches 100%, and then states "Connecting" ... and remains in that state until I close or, depending on how long I wait, force-close Winamp (i.e. after a while Winamp starts to be non-responsive. I can't put my finger on a time frame though, it also doesn't happen everytime). Furthermore, the track with the status "Connecting" can not be removed by using the "remove selected" button. The tracks after the first one never even get out of their waiting position. I've tried this with three different albums, so I'm fairly certain it's not a problem with the mp3 files themselves. Also, in Build 3033 the transfers were successful, so I'm also thinking it's not a problem with the Android app. Surprisingly, in the end, the single files end up on my device, in their respective /music/<artist>/<album>/... folder Informational Data: Windows 7 x64 / Intel Core2 E6550 / 4GB RAM / Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard / DirectX 11 Winamp 5.60 Build 3080 FINAL_2010_1129_211409 Full Winamp Plugin List -- attached Android Device: HTC Desire, unbranded Winamp for Android v0.92 Filetypes trying to be transferred: MP3 Edit: here's the crash info (in German, but you'll get the gist of it) Quote:

When installing Winamp 5.6, at the point where it says "installing Sonic runtime", it pauses, then provides an error message saying that "Some features/or components could not be installed, CD Burning/Ripping may not work '-1'"

Problems Syncing to iPod
I've been using Winamp to transcode and load files onto my iPod Classic for the last few versions of Winamp. Starting with the recent Beta and now the 5.6 release, when I send files to the iPod (via transcode from Flac to AAC), and then eject the iPod through either the Winamp interface or Windows, the iPod's menus say "no music" as if the device were completely empty, but upon reconnection Winamp can still see the files on the device. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, the iPod's firmware is current as of about a month ago (haven't checked lately).

Our Stage Radio Shoutcast Radio Aol Radio Song of the Day so any radio doesn't work, and also when I browse at AOL they they that radio isn't available in my area, I live in Canada and my provider is Rogers, I think this is the only problem, also why the player with mp3 and cd's working fine, hoping somebody have an idea, or winamp fix the problem, and important you understand my bad English (isn't my native language, but I try of to do my best) The antivirus and Firewall is G-Data but also with Karspesky I got the same problems Thank you Cariboou |

Hello,
I have realized that a lot of Milkdrop visualizations don't work any longer, for example "Flexi - molten neon fire spirit". ![]() Any idea? ![]() EDIT: my temporary fix: I copied the "vis_milk2.dll" from an old Winamp installation (previous release) into plugins folder, seems to work again with that. |

Jump to File dialog is hidden by main window
Scenario:
Winamp is running (minimized) I press the Global hotkey for Jump to File [Ctrl][Alt][J] Winamp pops up (the first thing I don't want it to do. A matter of taste) the Jump to File dialog opens (I don't click or change anything) I minimize the Main Window Both windows are minimized (as expected) I press the Global hotkey for Jump to File [Ctrl][Alt][J] again Nothing happens When I bring Winamp back to front by clicking it on the taskbar the Jump to File Dialog is hidden by the Main Window. Pressing [Ctrl][Alt][J] or [J] doesn't help. So if the JTF Dialog is already open and I press [Ctrl][Alt][J] can you please set the focus on the JTF Dialog and send it to front? Occurs at least with the (Big)Bento and Modern skin. Main window "Allways on Top" is off thank you |

Hmm, not sure if anything can be done about that, though maybe DrO can give a more accurate answer.... For now, checkmark "Toggle window if visible and hotkey is pressed again" in: Winamp -> Prefs -> Jump To File -> Display tab You can then hit J twice to make the JTFE dialog appear again on top of Winamp. |

nothing can really be done about the window going behind the main window from how i understand things with the minimise handling the OS applies to windows (is just how things work with the OS - was reported in a different case with the playlist editor and media library windows but same applies to what you're seeing).
with what DJ Egg has posted, that is the nearest which can be done for the time being (am unlikely to get around to working on the plug-in to have it re-focus the window if already open until after the new year). alas it looks like something i'm doing in the plug-in is hindering the normal behaviour of the base JTF window. so i've made a note to look into this when time allows. -daz |

All version starting from 5.5x to 5.601 included doesn't correctly support "Unsynchronization" flag in ID3v2 tags (separate topic). I qualify this as regression. And retagging is not solution for me so I am really waiting for fix of this bug. And the fact that this feature rarely used is bad excuse for not supporting standard. Example of such tag: bad_tag.mp3

Thanks for the reply. I think you're right that it has never been implemented. Will you guys be able to implement it? Hopefully it's a fairly easy one to do, and it really helps make Winamp a lot more useful for those of us that can't use (or try to avoid using) the mouse. Thanks!

JTFE regression
Jump To File Extra v1.2.3 (Build 1151) has a bug..
If you deselect "Highlight background of queued items in playlist", the [%N] will become invisible aswell. I played around with the highlight Options and it seems [%N] will simply get the same color as the background when the backgroud is not highlighted. Annoying, since I don't like having the queued items highlighted.. I tested this on a clean install of Winamp 5.601 with Bento. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, english version. /Plague |

thanks for the report - had thought that was working though the whole colouring stuff was re-done in the v1.2.x builds so i guess it slipped through with one of the other changes that had to be made to it.

OGX and in_vorbis.dll plugin
My issue with this Official Plugin package is with how Winamp interacts with the updated "in_vorbis.dll" plugin. Specifically, Winamp still refuses to acknowledge .OGX as a valid Vorbis audio format - even though this "in_vorbis.dll" plugin already has the capability to support .OGX.
Proof in point: I can force Winamp to try to play .ogx files (such as by adjusting Folder Options > File Types in Windows). But even then it will not play the file. However, with this Winamp 5.601 Official Plugin package, by simply renaming an .ogx format music track as .ogg it plays just fine. To me, this suggests a problem with file filtering by Winamp, not the capability of the "in_vorbis.dll" portion of this package. PS: Why are users prevented from adding new formats in the Preferences > File Types > Associated File Types screen? I realize that file types are normally added by installing additional plugins. But I think if such an option was added to Preferences, a lot of users could solve some file type headaches on their own. (It can get tedious after a while to rename file extensions, esp. if one tends to forget that this is necessary.) |

Jump to File - Queue a CD track won't advance queue
Hey. I noticed that if I queue up a track from an audio CD (how quaint, I know) using the Q key in the playlist, my queue will advance to the cd track, but then repeat that track over and over and not advance in the queue.
I tried messing with the settings in the Jump to File Prefs pages, but couldn't seem to find anything relevant. I'm running: Windows Server 2008, with Desktop Experience and Aero themes turned on. Let me know if you need more detail about my setup (like CD player info, drivers, etc.) |

Adding file info to .ogg (vorbis) damages files
Today, I did discover a problem with the new "in_vorbis.dll" plugin. When an .ogg file (and I'm talking about an actual .ogg and not an .ogx that was renamed) is recorded using a variable bitrate format and winamp is used to play it, I have to remind myself not to change or add any file info.
Specifically, if I right click on an .ogg, select "view file info" and then edit the song title, artist, album, etc., as soon as I click [OK] the file size drops significantly. (Like from 2.8 Mb to 2.4 Mb.) That may not sound like a bad thing, but the average bitrate also drops and the changed .ogg file clearly has worse sound quality than before! I'm not sure how that's even possible, but I suspect the original was recorded at a higher bitrate than the "in_vorbis.dll" plugin supports. This seems like a major bug because a media player should not damage music files just by adding file info. Maybe I'm just clueless, but I would think that adding file info should only require inserting extra data at the front, not recompiling the sound portion. |

i doubt this will help, but you might want to check out this thread: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....43#post2728643 there are a couple of posts towards the end from benski where he gives updated dlls. if you install these and test them on your files, it would be interesting to see if you could still reproduce. i agree that damaging the audio is unacceptable, i'd like to know though that that is in fact whats happening. we need someone else to reproduce your case above. this is similar to the bug i reported about how winamp will delete id3 frames it doesn't understand or support, like TCMP/Compilation. it actually "damages" those file's tags upon editing the tag. but how the audio could be damaged, thats very disconcerting. is the tag and the audio header one and the same in ogg? I have a bug report about Nullsoft MP4 Demuxer v2.3 [in_mp4.dll], or something that has to do with jumping within a track with the following format:
Audio: MPEG-4 AAC LC 192 kbps Video: jpeg 2 kbps 300x300 To be more precise, it's about Radio 538 dance department podcasts (RSS feed). These podcasts contain some jpg's that are shown on specific times. Bug description: It's not possible to jump to specific times of the podcast. When moving the timeslider to some point in time it will jump back to the last change in JPG previous to the selected time. Imaging I want to listen to the track starting at 45 minutes, when the last change in video was at 30 minutes, it's not possible with Winamp to get there without needing to wait 15 minutes. I didn't expect this bug to be still in Winamp, it is introduced, somewhere in 2010, maybe end 2009. More media info about the type of file: MediaInfo.txt |

DirectSound output plugin does not set soundcard to correct sample rate
When using the DirectSound output plugin, I noticed that my sound card remains at the sample rate of the first played file, even if I switch to other files with different sample rates. This is perfectly reproducable on my machine.
- Winamp does set the sample rate correctly upon starting the first file. If I manually set my soundcard to a higher sample rate when Winamp is not running and then start Winamp and start playing a file, the sample rate is correctly set. - Stopping playback and then starting again also does not make Winamp set the sample rate correctly. - It does not matter whether the new sample rate is higher or lower than the previous one: it simply isn't changed. - Windows must be resampling the audio stream, because the sound is not slower or faster when a file with a different sample rate is played. - This problem is hard to notice, because the sound quality is not noticably affected when for example a 48 kHz file is resampled to 44.1 kHz. However, if the first file I play is 22.1 kHz, the high frequency range of files with higher sample rates is missing, as is to be expected. - Other media players such as VLC or foobar2000 do change the sample rate of my soundcard and they also use DirectSound output, which means Winamp's output plugin is at fault and not the driver of my sound card. - When I use Winamp with the (third-party, Japanese) ASIO output plugin, my sound card correctly changes sample rate when it should, which again points to the DirectSound output plugin. System specs: - Latest version of Winamp of course - OS: Windows XP Home SP3, fully up-to-date (Dutch) - Hardware: Intel Pentium IV 2.4 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, Asus P4S8X mobo - Directx: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) - Soundcard: M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 with latest driver (5.10.0.5074) - Videocard: ATI Radeon 9000 with driver version 6.14.0010.6614 |

second, why do you want the file to playback at other than its native sample rate? third, why would changing sample rate affect the tempo? i wouldn't expect that, i'd only expect a change in the dynamic range. can you clarify that you can dictate via your sound card driver what the sample rate should be? i've done [light] work in studios and the way we do it is that any file is handled via its native sample rate, but then some cards will resample on the fly to a set output rate, so that the board or whatnot is always "knowing" and expecting the exact same rate, which can be useful for master word clocks and so on. 1. I have tried with with mp3, wav and flac. It doesn't matter.
2. The point is that I DO NOT want playback at other than its native sample rate; I want files with different sample rates all to be played at their native sample rates. The DirectSound output plugin doesn't let me do this, because it gets stuck at one sample rate only. Upon playing the first file with Winamp, the DirectSound output plugin sets the sample rate of the sound card once, according to the sample rate of the first file. Afterwards, it doesn't change the sample rate anymore, even if files of different native sample rates are played. At that point, the output plugin should change the sample rate of the sound card again, according to the native sample rate of the played file, everytime a file with a different sample rate is played. 3. Dynamic range is affected by the bit depth of a file, not sample rate. In case you change, for example in the header of a sound file, the sample rate of a 22.05 kHz file to 44.1 kHz but do not actually resample the file, it will be played twice as fast. This is simply because there is information for 22050 pieces of music per second, which would then be pumped through at a rate of 44100 pieces per second. Luckily, Winamp does not do this, therefore it must know well what the sample rate of the played file is. Only the DirectSound output plugin refuses to do the right thing with this information, that is setting the sound card to the same sample rate as the native sample rate of the played file. The way Windows XP decides whether resampling is necessary is this: it detects an incoming stream at a certain sample rate and then asks the sound card whether it can handle that sample rate. If the sound card can, no resampling is done. If the sound card cannot, Windows resamples the stream. If two streams of different sample rates are played at the same time, Windows also resamples one of them to match the other and then mixes the two. Either there, or in the DirectSound output plugin, there is resampling going on, because the files are all played at the right speed. 4. Via the control panel of my sound card, I can at all times see what the current sample rate is that it's working at. This should at all times be the same as the native sample rate of the played file. When using the DirectSound output plugin, this is not the case. I cannot manually set my soundcard at a different sample rate than that of the incoming audio stream. I can only change the sample rate manually via the control panel when there is no incoming audio stream (no sound). As soon as I begin playing a file, it locks the sample rate to the incoming audio stream, as it should. My sound card does not know what the native sample rate of the played file is, it assumes that the DirectSound output plugin tells it what it is. The output plugin tells it wrongly. 5. Extra information: I am not playing other sounds at the same time, which means there is absolutely no need for Windows to resample the audio stream to be able to merge two audio streams into one. Winamp is the only program that uses my sound card. |

Have you tried to select your soundcard's driver directly in the Winamp DirectSound output Plugin? Instead of "Primary Sound Device" (or similar, I don't know the exact term in the English Windows, in the German Windows versions it reads "Primärer Soundtreiber").
Maybe this changes something? I by myself cannot reproduce this as I have no possibility to read the current sample rate at my soundcard. But I also sometimes had the feeling that different files, especially with "odd" rates such as 50000 Hz or 44056 Hz (some old Amiga and Atari soundclips) have slightly different pitches dependent of whether the previously-played file was 48000 Hz or 44100 Hz. Apart from that, when I set my laptop to use S/PDIF output, the attached digital Home cinema system displays the actual sample rate and it is always the one of the currently played file. So this seems to work. (Unfortunately, direct S/PDIF passthrough does definitely not work, so AC3 streams are not passed through, but this is a different issue....) Best regards, kzuse |

I tried selecting the device manually instead of using the primary sound device, but it made no difference. I also set it to SPDIF output and the control panel still reported the wrong sample rate. I do not have an external device to test what actually comes out of the SPDIF output, but I do not have a reason to believe it is any different from what the software says.

just to be sure: if i play a 8khz file and then a 44.1khz file, you are saying that the 44.1 file will sound no better than the 8khz one, correct? does kbps matter? in other words, show me/tell me how to reproduce...? Quote:
sampling rate does seem to impact dynamic range: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_rate bit depth and sampling rate are in fact closely related: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_bit_depth Quote:
you don't seem to be blaming winamp, but rather you blame the directsound output plugin. is that right? are you saying the plugin is "misinforming" your sound card? to me, sample rate is about dynamic range, as is bit depth, (normally, if you want more range, you increase both, like 192khz/24bit). i've never had software or bad headers play something off tempo b/c of it, and obviously that would be incorrect. is it possible the output plugin reports the wrong number, but still plays it back correctly? PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

I find it too much work to upload songs to test it. You can use Audacity to generate some test tones at various sample rates. I did that too, the problem remains the same. Make sure to set the project sample rate (lower left corner) to some different values and then export the test tones. Kbps or filetype does not matter.

This is how you reproduce this problem: 1. If Winamp is open, close the program. 2. Start Winamp, play a file and note the sample rate of this file. 3. While playing, go see at what sample rate your sound card is operating. Because this is still the first file, it will display that it's working at the same sample rate as the native sample rate of the file you're playing. This is correct behaviour. 4. Then start playing another file, which has a different native sample rate than the previous file. 5. Again go see at what sample rate your sound card is operating. Now you will see that it's still working at the sample rate of the previous file and not, as it should, at the sample rate of the current file. This is the problem. 6. If you like, advance to a third file with yet another sample rate. The sound card will still be working at the sample rate of the first file. In my previous post, I said the DirectSound output plugin should tell the sound card at which sample rate it should work. This is badly put. It does not have to tell this: the sound card senses what the sample rate of the incoming audio stream is and automatically sets its clock to the right sample rate. The problem appears to be that the audio stream that the DirectSound output plugin sends to the sound card is always at the sample rate of the first file played, while it should change to the sample rate of the currently playing file every time you change songs. I hope I have finally made myself clear. |

Playlist and not Player is only viewable when maximized on Windows [XP] taskbar
OS: Win XP [current updates]
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7300 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1792MB RAM Occurs 60% of the time. [May occur on other Os's, havent tested] Steps: 1. Install Latest Winamp Build. 2. Click to View both Winamp Player and Playlist joined together on desktop. 3. Click from the taskbar the Winamp program group to Minimize Winamp to the taskbar. 4. Repeat step 3 to Maximize Winamp to view on desktop. 5. Repeat Step 3 & 4 to several times. Result: Either Player or Playlist will only show when clicked upon from taskbar. Expected: Both Player & Playlist to show up together when clicked from taskbar. Notes: Not sure if running other apps causes viewing issues. I run Firefox 3 [general web browsing] and listen to Winamp at the same time. Im not a full on Dev, but wanted to bring this issue up. It also sometimes happens when Im simply running Winamp by itself, with no other apps running. Hope this info helps! Thanks. [Winamp 4 Life] |
