I'm having a problem with rar archives getting crc errors when getting read/written from/to the harddrive while winamp is playing. It isn't every file only about 1 or 2 files of 50 if they are 15mb each. And it's never the same file getting the error, and pausing or stopping winamp always stops the errors. This has been happening with all build of winamp. Any suggestion on how to fix this from happening? My computer specs are in the signature.

Strange !?!?
Is Winamp Agent running? If so, try disabling it to see if this was the cause? (Prefs -> Agent: uncheck all 3 options) Are all the tracks in your playlist MP3's ? If so, all I can think of right now is: Prefs -> Input -> MPEG Audio Decoder -> config -> Decoder tab Uncheck: CRC Checking (Though this option isn't enabled by default) Can you give us any more info about the error message? Where is it actually coming from? Surely not Winamp? Is it an error regarding the RAR archive, or the MP3 being played in Winamp? Exact wording please! What ZIP/RAR program is it? Does it have anything in the options related to CRC Checking being enabled? More info about CRC Check here: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=35630 btw, you missed out your OS in the specs list. It always helps to know! Don't know if this is worth mentioning, but I'm making it a policy to bring it to the attention of all Winamp users with SBLive cards: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=49692 (gen_nomad.dll) |

Winamp Agent is not running, first thing I always turn off.
And the tracks I play are all Mp3, and I don't have CRC Checking enabled. It's the RAR archive's that get crc errors when winamp is playing, either extracting or testing in Winrar or using any program that checks the RAR archives agains a .sfv file. So CRC Checking in winamp should have anything to do with the problem. My OS is Win2k. |

You still havn't told us what RAR program you are using. Are you using WinRAR? if so, try using the dos version. Granted, it may not be the most user-friendly interface, but it works. Also, it may fix the problems considering that it would be running in dos instead of windows.

Are you using the default Winamp setup, or have you installed any extra 3rd party plugins? Particularly of the General Purpose variety (gen_*.dll), or any active DSP/FX. btw#2 What's an .sfv file exactly? btw#3 Is it a registered version of WinRar? btw#4 I use PowerArchiver for all my archiving needs. Supports EVERY compressed archive format there is! |

yea, PowerArchiver just about does every one in terms of extraction. Not necessarily so on compression. Although it does on the major ones.

After deleting the gen_nomad.dll file I havn't been able to repro the crc error with rar files so I assume that was what was causing it, thanks for the info on that file. I will return if it happens again
![]() And a .sfv is a file with values from a simple file verification algoritm run on the files to make sure that they havn't been changed or damaged, usefull with rar files since the rar format doesn't have one built in. I was using a eval of winrar just to be sure that it wasn't just winace that was getting the errors. Winace also supports all compressed archives I have ever needed to extract/modify. |
